Assess and advise the CFO/CITL on managing the taxation matters, risks and opportunities of EY and its affiliated partnerships and corporations (the "Firm").
Assess and advise the CFO/CITL on taxation and accounting matters related to the determination of taxable income of the Firm.
Advise the CFO/CITL on various strategic taxation matters related to potential transactions, tax planning matters for the Firm, investments of the Firm and other special projects.
Assess and manage tax risks related to foreign jurisdictions (primarily the US) including foreign source income, establishment of permanent establishments, foreign tax credits, withholding taxes, and taxation of non-residents and tax treaty relief.
Manage the preparation and compliance of all federal, provincial and foreign tax filings for the Firm and related entities.
Identify, recommend and implement standard operating procedures to centralize and support the efficient, timely and accurate preparation of all tax filings.
Effectively manage and advise the CFO/CITL on matters related to all tax audits and respond to all tax notices and related correspondence.
Provide technical taxation advice and knowledge to others within the Finance group.
Assess and manage firm taxation matters related to inbound and outbound services provided through the EY global network.
Liaise with People Advisory Services on employment related taxation matters (ie. transfer of staff and partners to other countries in the EY global network).
What we look for
Have a bachelor's degree, preferably with an emphasis in accounting, finance, or economics (an advanced degree in tax is highly desirable)
Have a minimum of 5 years of experience working in the tax department of a public accounting firm providing services to CCPC’s, or the equivalent experience in business or industry
Having a Professional accounting (CPA) designation or specialty certification in tax is considered an asset
Have broad exposure to Canadian federal income taxation
Must be detail oriented, a self-starter with the ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities and complete work timely and accurately
Be able to communicate abstract concepts in simple terms
Strong computer literacy skills with Microsoft Office and advanced level Excel skills (pivots, v-lookups, and advanced formulas)
Have ability to gain the cooperation, collaborate and build consensus with direct and non-direct reports
Demonstrate critical thinking and the ability to bring order to unstructured problems
Have ability to review processes and identify improvements with the goal to develop best practices
Have advanced analytical, organizational and time management skills
Have excellent written and verbal communication skill
This position is fully on-site and requires the individual to work from the Toronto office
