What you’ll do
As part of your role we would expect you to:
- objectively evaluate Wealth proposals by applying institutional knowledge and risk appetite against industry standards, widely accepted business practices, laws, rules, and regulatory guidelines, escalating as appropriate;
- collaborate with many teams across Wealth when considering business and regulatory projects, coordinating closely with the wider Legal team on a regional and global basis, and with external counsel as necessary;
- work with key stakeholders to develop best practices in connection with various initiatives (including transformation, technology, knowledge management, and digitization);
- appropriately assess risk and apply sound ethical judgment when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets.
Example projects include:
- leading or partnering with other teams to implement regulation, for example financial, ESG, consumer protection, data protection, and digital related regulations;
- reviewing all new business initiatives, digital and otherwise (such as data sharing of Wealth client data outside of Wealth, use of WhatsApp or WeChat, new process flows for account opening, prospecting and marketing initiatives);
- advising on licensing requirements and updates in Wealth sales offices and booking centers, including regulator engagement and remediation of any licensing deficiencies ;
- working with centralised Legal teams at Citi to advise on a range of matters, including implementation of third-party software/technology provider contracts for Wealth (alongside the technology lawyers) and coordinating with Litigation legal team to handle litigation matters for Wealth.
What we’ll need from you
As the role is broad in nature we would expect you to be a qualified lawyer with a good grounding in financial services regulation and private wealth management/investment advisory services. In addition:
- some experience either in private practice or in-house with banking and/or investment products and applicable EU regulation would be beneficial;
- a general grounding in UK/EEA data privacy laws would beneficial;
- you will be someone that thrives on collaborative working, with a keen mind to get to the bottom of complex legal problems;
- you pride yourself on having clear, non-waffly communication skills, and understand how to explain complex legal issues in digestible, concise summaries.
