The ESG Controller will play a critical role in managing our global sustainability reporting processes, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance with relevant standards and regulations. This detail-oriented position requires a deep understanding of ESG principles and strong analytical skills. The ideal candidate has financial reporting experience and can help to apply the same rigor to sustainability reporting. This role requires strong project management skills and a candidate who can work collaboratively with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and reliability of ESG disclosures to support the organization's sustainability goals.

This Global role requires working closely with and building trusted advisor relationships with stakeholders at all levels across the functions so confidence and ability to connect with various stakeholders is critical.

Your key responsibilities

  • Manage a comprehensive project plan and inventory for new and existing sustainability and ESG reporting requirements, ensuring accountability and identifying possible gaps.
  • Facilitate the ongoing evolution of the reporting strategy for current and future annual reporting against industry frameworks and regulated standards (e.g., WEF IBC, EU CSRD, IFRS ISSB, etc.).
  • Work with the team to establish and maintain an ESG control framework and governance in collaboration with Internal Audit, Risk Management, and Compliance functions.
  • Coordinate cross-functional data collection and support the pre-assurance readiness and external assurance processes, ensuring the appropriateness, completeness, and accuracy of data and disclosures.
  • Oversee the development and documentation of appropriate methodologies for collecting, calculating and reporting data across a range of sustainability matters.
  • Own the reporting lifecycle across multiple annual reports. Identify areas for process improvement and opportunities to further integrate technology solutions across data collection, validation and reporting.
  • Provide technical support on specific group and entity level reporting requirements across the EY member firm network as needed.
  • Manage and delegate work to a global team of 1-3 data owners who support data preparation and reporting.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field. A master's degree or relevant certification (e.g., CPA, CFA, SASB FSA) is a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial reporting, auditing, non-financial reporting, carbon accounting, or a related field
  • Understanding of non-financial reporting standards such as GRI, SASB, TCFD, TNFD, CDP, WEF IBC, ISO certification, and the evolving regulatory reporting landscape (e.g., EU CSRD, IFRS ISSB)
  • Proven experience in data management, analysis, and reporting, with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and stakeholder management skills and ability to learn and quickly understand new concepts outside area of expertise
  • Communication skills to work effectively with global team members with different technical and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to flex working hours to accommodate global stakeholders (primarily based in Europe and US)
  • Strong team player who is comfortable working collaboratively, virtually, and independently
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving, and ambiguous environment
