Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage monthly corporate accounting close activities, including coordination with US and International teams in preparation of month close packages
  • Partner closely with the Tax team to provide various international accounting support on tax related activities, including transfer pricing, legal entity reorganization, and other tax initiatives
  • Collaborate with the Technical Accounting team and other functional teams, including assess accounting implications and design operational processes to support the Company’s implementation of new accounting pronouncements or new business initiatives
  • Perform ad hoc technical accounting research and evaluation of non-recurring accounting transactions, including having a thorough understanding of associated legal documents, documentation of accounting conclusions, as needed, and understanding proposed journal entries for posting in the GL
  • Oversee the global account reconciliation process and conduct periodic quality reviews of account reconciliations. Review journal entries and various account reconciliations to facilitate the month end closing process, including bank reconciliations and other balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Design, implement, and maintain effective accounting processes, policies, and internal controls
  • Identify automation opportunities while proactively engaging and collaborating with accounting transformation team members to build various scalable and transformational processes as well as to support new business initiatives
  • Evaluate and recommend best practices and process improvement opportunities
  • Develop working relationships to collaborate with Finance, Payroll, Tax, Legal, Treasury and international teams to meet day-to-day operational needs
  • Act as the key liaison in managing audit activities with internal and external auditors
  • Play an active role in leading ad hoc projects
  • Assist in preparing various financial reports, including supporting footnotes for SEC filings, such as the Form 10-K, 10-Q and 8-K reports
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and an active CPA license
  • 6+ years of demonstrated success in accounting roles of increasing responsibility, preferably a mix of both public accounting and corporate accounting roles within a publicly traded company
  • 3+ years of managing a team
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, SEC Regulations and understanding of SOX 404(b) compliance
  • Experience with SAP and Oracle is highly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with process and system automation
  • Experienced in leading cross-functional projects and related management presentations
  • Must have the ability to execute multiple tasks, while remaining detail oriented with high commitment to quality, and able to adhere to strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Previous experience managing a team with a commitment to creating an environment that fosters career growth and development for the team
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, including the ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships across the organization
  • Passion in managing the implementation of technology and executing process improvements

  • An employee’s pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.
  • The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York or remote jobs that can be performed in California, Colorado and New York. This range may be modified in the future.
  • You will be eligible to participate in Western Digital’s Short-Term Incentive (STI) Plan, which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance. Depending on your role and your performance, you may be eligible to participate in our annual Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program, which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs) or cash equivalents, pursuant to the terms of the LTI plan.
