This job acts as a project leader, coordinating the activities of other engineers, determining technical tasks, and improving existing structures and processes. It involves making technical decisions, collaborating with management to set standards, and representing the company to external partners.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Determines the technical tasks that other engineers will follow
  • Actions result in the achievement of customer, operational, program or service objectives
  • Proactively improves existing structures & processes
  • Exercises judgement in reconciling diverse and competing priorities (time, quality, complexity risk) to identify optimal solutions to problems
  • Notices patterns and condenses repetition into densely meaningful generalized solutions
  • Collaborates with management to set/improve standards for engineering rigor
  • Trusted to represent PayPal, Inc to the outside world via interactions with partners, customers, or industry organizations

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Design, implement, and manage cloud-native infrastructure with a focus on reliability, scalability, and maintainability.

  • Architect and maintainmicroservice-orientedplatforms, supporting service discovery, distributed tracing, security, and lifecycle automation.

  • Develop Kubernetes-native tooling and controllers in Golang, aligned with operator patterns and platform extension strategies.

  • Build and maintainInfrastructure-as-Code(IaC) frameworks using Terraform, AWS CDK, or Nest/Crossplane, enabling declarative, repeatable infrastructure provisioning.

  • Drive platform standardization for deploying, scaling, and monitoring microservices across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

  • Collaborate with application teams to build reusable service templates, API contracts, and runtime environments optimized for microservices.

  • Design and develop internal developer platforms that improve engineering productivity, including GitOps workflows, CI/CD integrations, and automated observability.

  • Ensure service-level resilience, fault tolerance, and dynamic scaling across microservices.

  • stablish best practices for distributed systems and microservice engineering.

  • + years of experience building and operating cloud infrastructure in AWS, GCP, or Azure.

  • Strong hands-on experience with Golang, particularly for backend systems, api development,controllers, or infrastructure services.

  • Expertise in Kubernetes and its ecosystem (CRDs, Operators, Helm, etc.).

  • Proficient with Terraform, AWS CDK, or otherinfrastructure-as-codetooling.

  • Deep understanding of microservice architecture, including principles like domain-driven design, API-first development, service contracts, and observability.

  • Hands-on experience implementing service mesh, distributed tracing, and container orchestration at scale.

  • Familiarity with DevSecOps, RBAC, network policies, and compliance in cloud environments.

  • Proven experience working with CI/CD systems, GitOps tooling (e.g., ArgoCD, Flux), and container build pipelines.
