Qualcomm Incorporated is seeking an experienced Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) attorney with 5+ years of related experience (e.g., ESG, environmental regulations, emissions regulations, etc.). This attorney will be responsible for monitoring, evaluating and ensuring compliance with ESG regulations across the globe, particularly in the EU and the UK. We are looking for candidates who are proactive, attentive to detail, and show strong judgment. We value candidates who can work both independently and collaboratively.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advise the Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel (Corporate), as well as the ESG/Sustainability (Government Affairs) team, Accounting Practices & Reporting (AP&R) team, Real Estate & Facilities team, RF360 and Manufacturing teams, and Supply Chain team, among other internal stakeholders, on legal and regulatory matters related to ESG, including Climate, GHG emissions, supply chain, human rights and green claims, among others.
Provide legal expertise in connection with issued and pending ESG regulations across the globe, including, for example, EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), EU Taxonomy Regulation, EU Green Transition Directive, EU Green Claims Directive, EU Deforestation Regulation, EU Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA), EU Batteries Regulation, German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG), EU/UK Emissions Trading System/Scheme (ETS) Regulations, among many others.
Draft and/or review disclosures required by ESG regulations worldwide.
Evaluate advertising and marketing claims that may require disclosure under, or be prohibited by, ESG regulations worldwide.
Coordinate legal review of Qualcomm’s annual corporate responsibility report and other public ESG disclosures, including submissions to rating/ranking organizations, press releases, presentation materials and executive speeches.
Serve as a thought leader and in-house expert on all aspects of ESG disclosure, governance and best practices.
Monitor, review and advise on legal developments, laws, rules, regulations and disclosure practices related to ESG.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Juris Doctorate degree or International equivalent.
5+ years of relevant experience at a law firm.
Active bar license to practice law in the jurisdiction where the employee will be practicing.
Knowledge and understanding of, and commitment to continue to learn, international ESG reporting and disclosure regulations.
Understanding of ESG reporting frameworks, including TCFD, GHG Protocol, GRI, ISSB and CDP, among others.
Ability to effectively collaborate with teams.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
Ability to translate legal requirement into practical guidance and formulate creative solutions to accomplish objectives.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to work effectively across functions and departments.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience as in-house counsel.
Experience engaging with governmental agencies
We prefer candidates to work out of our offices in one of the following locations:
Munich, Germany
Cambridge, UK
London, UK
Madrid, Spain
Brussels, Belgium
We may also consider candidates to work out of another of our European offices.
This position requires travel, as necessary.
Please note that we require 4 days/week in the office, on average (excluding business travel, holidays, vacation, illness and LOAs).
Minimum Qualifications:
• Juris Doctorate degree or international equivalent.
• 5+ years of relevant experience as counsel at a law firm or in-house.
• Active bar license to practice law in the state or jurisdiction where the employee will be practicing (or ability to obtain upon hiring).
