The ideal candidate will possess a strong energy background and a proven track record of developing and delivering on innovative energy projects. Experience working with regulated electric utilities, especially those in WECC and PNW region, to develop, contract and deliver medium and high voltage power infrastructure, including related tariffs and supply agreements, is a must. In this role, you will negotiate and execute power supply contracts across AWS regions and create innovative supply structures that integrate our renewable energy portfolio and support the growth of clean energy via utility partnerships. The right candidate will have a demonstrated ability to think strategically about the business, operations, and technical challenges, with the skill-set to drive tactical execution of project schedules, contracts, initiatives and team goals. The candidate must have experience in reliably driving initiatives to completion in high speed, constrained and ambiguous environments, with practice in escalating and reporting to many organization leaders and teams across multiple levels. By establishing and growing business and technical relationships, and managing the day-to-day interactions with these partners, you will be responsible for ensuring energy requirements needed to support AWS’s global infrastructure expansion are met.This role may require some domestic travel (less than 20%).Key job responsibilities
• Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive utilities strategy for AWS data centers for AMER regions.
• Manage multiple Utilities, EPC and Owner's Engineers to deliver MV and HV power infrastructure, including negotiations and contracting.
• Develop and execute energy strategies that leverage capital projects (utility grid connections, high voltage substations, energy storage, etc) to reduce long term energy costs. Manage capital budgets for electrical infrastructure and energy projects.
• Work collaboratively with Amazon CFE/RE team to support the development of strategic energy sourcing opportunities
• Execute electricity supply contracts that create new clean energy capacity on the grid (through utilities), reduce cost, minimize risk and leverage opportunities that benefit Amazon
• Manage a portfolio of complex energy projects
• Collaborate with internal teams and regulated utilities on the implementation and management of energy projects to meet the business timelines.
• Identify and develop innovative cost savings projects (capital and operational) and initiatives related to energy infrastructure and supply.
• Responsible for completing due diligence on in-market opportunities and developing those opportunities into cost savings for the business.
• Work with utility regulators to develop policies and guidelines that enable broader AWS strategies and objectives.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) required in Engineering/Business or other technical field
• 7+ years of experience working in utility/energy industry in a commercial/business development or technical role
• 3+ years of experience of analyzing energy projects and negotiating interconnection agreements and related contracts with utilities and contractors
• 2+ years of experience managing multiple million dollar power infrastructure contracts with external stakeholders to drive projects to completion
• 1+ years of experience developing and delivering Medium Voltage and High Voltage electric infrastructure projects in a planning or project management role


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s Business Administration (MBA) or Degree in Electrical Engineering with the focus on Power and Energy field
• Financial/business/commercial experience The ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem solving skills
• Experience planning, engineering, developing or constructing substations or other energy infrastructure
• Experience evaluating and implementing innovative infrastructure and operational strategies within the energy sector, such as energy storage, demand response, fuel cells, etc.
• Experience working directly with public utility commissions and other energy regulators
• Experience successfully negotiating new tariff rates, power purchase agreements and/or energy infrastructure contracts in regulatory regimes
• Proven ability to evaluate new energy markets, utility tariffs, policies, power contracts, or evaluating new energy sourcing opportunities and technologies
