The IBM Cloud Databases (ICD) team is responsible for developing and operating the Software as a Service (SaaS) offerings that provide Database as a Services (DBaaS) in IBM Cloud.
ICD is seeking an experienced developer who can join the RabbitMQ service team. You will develop configuration, scripts, and other tooling to bootstrap and allow RabbitMQ to run in our highly available Kubernetes & Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) based Cloud Environment. You will participate in the design of the service, writing tools and automation, building containers, developing tests, determining monitoring best practices and handling complex customer escalations. The developer must be familiar with message broker fundamentals, and general operations in a production environment.

We are a “You build it, You run it” culture. As a developer, you will join our follow-the-sun rotation where you will be the primary responder for automated system alerts. You will work have a unique opportunity to gain first-hand experience with the latest database and orchestration technologies. The services must meet stringent availability targets 24×7 in all datacenters across the globe. You will follow runbooks to resolve such issues and use your troubleshooting and analytical skills to diagnose or troubleshoot platform or Data Service issues.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 3+ years with the build, installation, and configuration of message brokers.
  • 3+ years with operating message broker service in an HA, production environment.
  • Advanced scripting in Python.
  • Experience with building containerized services.


Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • The use of Kubernetes in a production environment.
  • Operating an MQ service in large-scale, high-availability environments.
  • Knowledge of RabbitMQ best practices, including message queue operations and performance tuning.
