Ebay Tax Manager - US Controversy

You will have an important and impactful role within the tax department, directly managing the US state income tax and property tax audit. You will also have a chance to lead and support US international tax planning projects and the US federal income tax audit. You will work closely with the Senior Tax Manager, State Tax Compliance & Controversy and collaborate with the treasury and accounting teams, federal and state agencies and external service providers. The Manager reports into the Tax Manager, US Tax Controversy.

What you will accomplish:

  • Manage the day to day US state income tax audits;
  • Conduct comprehensive data gathering, engage in preliminary research, and reconcile any inconsistencies to formulate informed responses to Information Document Requests;
  • Prepare and timely file all non-income tax based tax obligations;
  • Work with State Tax subject matter expert on state tax audits;
  • Liaise with eBay’s tax compliance, provision, transfer pricing, domestic and tax planning teams to effectively manage the audits.
  • Effectively communicating with tax authorities, other members of the tax team and other members within the organization;
  • Interact with tax colleagues on a regular basis to understand, discuss, and assist in bringing resolution to detailed income tax issues;
  • Form positive relationships with internal Finance, Legal, HR, and business leaders as well as external advisors to ensure complete and timely flow of information to Tax and effective resolution of tax audits;
  • Develop and implement strategies to resolve state tax controversy issues;
  • Opportunity to support US international tax planning and M&A projects;
  • Coordinate with SMEs to consider impact of legislative and other relevant changes to state tax audits.

What you will bring:

Candidates for this position should have Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Accounting, Finance, or Taxation. A CPA is highly desired. A minimum of 6 years of federal and/or state tax compliance experience is recommended. Experience in US state tax controversy role with proficiency in light research methodologies on state income tax matters is desired, not required. In addition, this individual should possess the following skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to gather information to construct comprehensive responses;
  • A demonstrated track record of leading successful projects and conflict resolution.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills;
  • Detailed problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Positive interpersonal skills;
  • Desire to learn new skills; and ability to work as a part of a larger group.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment in California, Washington, or New York is expected in the range below.

$106,800 - $162,800
