The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a Sr Product Development Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most creative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Designing, developing, and commercializing new filtration sorbent media for respiratory applications.
  • Developing sustainable gas and vapor filtration technologies and materials for air purifying respirators.
  • Supporting the hardgoods lab with various testing, experiments, maintenance, repair, calibration, and hazard reviews.
  • Planning and managing work to meet project plans, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Communicating progress and issues to key stakeholders to ensure alignment and support.
  • Developing clear and concise technical specifications and documentation.
  • Having a hands-on approach to creating physical functional objects; performing all steps required in taking a design from concept through production, from component and material selection through processing and manufacturing.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) in an engineering discipline from an accredited institution and a minimum of (6) years of experience in chemical engineer or chemistry R&D in a public, private or military environment.

-OR-

  • P.H.D in a chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science engineering or chemistry field.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Experience or advanced degree in organometallic, inorganic, catalyst background and training.
  • Experience in filtration with carbon mixtures, natural organic and inorganic insoluble materials for removal of pollutants and chemical materials.
  • Experience working with air or water filtration systems
  • Experience with process technologies such as injection molding, extrusion or near net-shape forming
  • Experience with Rapid Prototyping and 3D printers in manufacturing engineering, process or product engineering
  • Skilled in the art of efficient problem solving when minimal information is available.
  • Understanding of intellectual property and internal drive to innovate
  • Demonstrated scientific excellence as evidenced by publications and presentations.
  • Candidate should have a "hands on, self-starter" orientation to their work, have broad interests and willingness to explore new areas well outside and around conventionally established chemistry, physics, materials or mechanical engineering roles.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
