As an Environmental Planner based out of Denver, Colorado you’ll have the opportunity to use your specialized in-depth knowledge and play a role in all stages of performing alternative analyses and play a role in public involvement for a variety of transportation, water and utility projects for a diverse public and private client base. You’ll work independently to solve a range of complex problems as you grow your career. You’ll use best practices of NEPA and other environmental regulations to prepare well written environmental documentation for our clients. You’ll also research and prepare technical reports for NEPA documents, prepare permit applications as well as coordinate regulatory permitting issues with internal and regulatory agency staff.

Technical/Functional Responsibilities:

  • Collects environmental, social and/or economic data to be used in developing alternatives to study under NEPA and in assessing impacts.
  • Supports scoping activities, developing purpose and need, developing alternatives and preparing documents in compliance with NEPA.
  • Prepares and/or contributes to NEPA documents, including Categorical Exclusions (CEs), Environmental Assessments (EAs) and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs).
  • Performs various aspects of environmental planning assignments, applying knowledge of environmental planning principles.
  • Collaborative team approach internally and externally; contact with clients and public and regulatory agencies.
Here's what you'll need
  • Bachelors Degree in Urban, Regional or Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Geography, Biology/Ecology, History, Archaeology, Historic Architecture, Landscape Architecture or a related field
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental planning
  • Understanding and experience preparing environmental documentation
  • Ability to work both individually and as part of a collaborative team contributing to the preparation of environmental documentation for a diverse range of projects
  • Experience supporting public involvement, agency coordination and interfacing with stakeholders and professionals

Ideally, You’ll Also Have:

  • Masters Degree in Urban, Regional or Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Geography, Biology/Ecology, Landscape Architecture or a related field
  • Experience with state or local environmental requirements (i.e., California Environmental Quality Act)
  • Experience delivering NEPA documents for federal land management agencies
  • Experience preparing Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Statements
  • Specialized area of experience, such as wetland delineation and permitting, visual impact assessments, Environmental Justice analysis, and other areas
  • Experience with Federal Lands Highway Divisions
  • Experience with water development projects
  • Experience with GIS for resource identification, mapping, and analysis
  • Ability to read technical design drawings
  • Understanding of project development processes and how environmental and planning activities fit within project delivery
