As a Payments Risk Associate on the Corporate and Investment Bank (CIB) Wholesale Credit Risk (WSC) Intraday Payments team, you will monitor and develop to conduct real-time Credit Decisions (Approval/Rejection/Escalation) of Intraday payments to make credit decisions based on factors including knowledge of clients credit characteristics (risk grading, structure of intra-day facilities), portfolio of business with the firm, complexity of payment products/arrangements, historical patterns and using general credit acumen. You will effectively execute sound risk management decisions within credit authority levels and within the firm’s policy and procedures and serve as a Subject Matter Expert for WCR on the payments Lines of Business, product offerings, payments flows and systems.

Job Responsibilities

  • Daily review and approval of overdrafts using Credit authority.
  • Work with Credit Officers and the Business to inventory items causing business disruptions or having the potential for impacts.
  • Participate in complex client situations learning the firms systems and operating models.
  • Learn client behaviors in relation to underlying business activity to identify abnormal behavior and proactively help the team prepare for events based on market activity or upcoming events.
  • Participate in client, event and country crisis management/Rapid Exposure Drills (RED) risk mitigation actions including first line of contact with the Payments Command Center.
  • Develop strong working relationships with Sales, Client Service, Operations, Risk Stripes and functional partners (finance) as needed.
  • Adapt to a growing and changing business that is being supported, develop awareness of when to own items vs. escalate. Individual will need to support other team members to make decisions balancing the best interests of the firm and clients, to maximize beneficial outcomes.
  • Develop a working knowledge of how products help clients achieve their goals while at time creating Risk for the firm that needs to be monitored, controlled and reported.
  • Assist in developing policy and procedure to drive governance, awareness and control across Credit Risk with regards to Payments.
  • Own executing against daily deliverables and own and contribute to medium/long-term projects (with opportunities to run and participate in committees, working groups and help drive the technology agenda).
  • Continually challenge and improve Risk reports and views and support the Payments Chief Risk Officer as needed.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or quantitative field
  • 4+ years of direct experience in Credit or translatable risk disciplines
  • Possess qualitative and quantitative knowledge of Credit Risk management (policy and some level of technical knowledge), to identify key information and drivers across complex businesses and products
  • Ability to review regulation versus existing policy and procedure, in order to assess impact to Credit Risk and present to senior team members with recommendations for actionable deliverables
  • Strong communication, organizational and time management skills are critical for this role, including performing data analysis and translating messages into higher level presentations for broader often senior audiences
  • Ability to work autonomously while working in a time sensitive environment, capable of using data and critical thinking to advise senior team members making real-time decisions
  • Ability to execute against daily tasks and time based deadlines
  • Ability and desire to develop understanding of various lines of business, including learning and helping to develop advances in technology platforms
  • Connecting the pieces in siloed structures and foster productive relationships across the lines of business, in a large matrixed organization
  • Strong control mind-set, demonstrable partnership skills
