Within our Energy Advisory team we advise clients on the challenges and opportunities regarding decarbonisation/net zero issues specifically in relation to requirements for delivering the global energy transition. This includes decentralised, decarbonised generation and management, renewables and innovation in technologies and energy sources.

We are currently seeking an experienced technical specialist to lead our Renewables Advisory capability to help deliver continued growth in our services and add greater value to our client’s requirements. The role will provide leadership and participation in project teams delivering our services and provide wider support enabling the growth and development of our team. A key element of this is being at the forefront of dynamic change, in terms of clean energy generation, management and distribution.

The Role

In your role as Capability Lead, you’ll provide leadership through a variety of project delivery roles, from task lead to project reviewer to ensure delivery of successful outcomes for our clients.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of renewable energy advisory projects, ensuring they meet client expectations and regulatory requirements, being accountable for key project delivery tasks and quality outputs through project reviewer/verifier role.
  • Collaborate and engage with a range of stakeholders at all levels (directors, internal networks, clients, regulators, partners etc.).
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance the growth of the Renewable Advisory capability.
  • Mentoring and development support for team members aligned to project delivery.
  • Maintaining knowledge of energy/carbon policy developments, energy markets and wider energy/sustainability issues.
  • Understanding of renewable energy generation technology options appraisals and life cycle cost analysis.
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise on renewable energy technologies, including solar, wind, hydro, and energy storage systems.
  • Skills in financial modelling and analysis to assess project viability and profitability. Also, understanding of commercial strategies, financing mechanisms and incentives for renewable energy projects.
  • Research on innovative technologies and application to requirements.
  • Candidates should be diligent with good attention to detail, but also able to consider innovative solutions and “out of the box” thinking to our client’s changing regulatory and economic environment.

You need to enjoy working in a dynamic team environment and where necessary using your expertise to guide and mentor other members of staff. You’ll also require the ability to lead bid preparation, deliver to tight timescales, be technically accurate and to manage a number of schemes simultaneously, either as the lead or as part of a team. Strong verbal and written communication skills, and excellent quantitative and problem-solving skills are essential as part of this role.

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Renewable Energy, Environmental Science, Engineering - likely to have a focus on energy (Chemical / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering, or equivalent process-related degree).
  • 10+ years of experience in the energy field (consultancy / industrial / commercial / utilities).
  • Strong project management skills, including ability to develop clear work programmes and communicate requirements to other team members.
  • Knowledge of current and anticipated environmental, carbon and energy policy and legislation and how this can apply to organisations and projects.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to engage with colleagues and clients and provide clear, evidence-based advice verbally and within written reports and presentations.
  • Understanding of the design, installation, and operation of renewable energy systems; in addition to understanding the regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements in the renewable energy sector.
  • Membership of an Engineering Institution (preferable)
