What to Expect
Tesla’s world-class Cell Manufacturing Engineering team is looking for a highly motivated Sr. Technical Program Manager for an exciting new project. As a Technical Program Manager, you are responsible for managing projects from “cradle to grave”. You will drive the development and deployment of new automated manufacturing lines, while also managing the ramp of developing ones. This includes concept through design, install, integration, ramp, and handover to production. You will use your engineering background to understand the line, construction requirements, equipment, process and product requirements, technical risks, strategy for deployment and ramp, and use these to define the manufacturing program plan. Technical program managers own driving the scope, schedule, implementation, and cost of the project as well as additional functions such as vendor relations, stakeholder management and report outs. You will communicate and present project status, highlight schedule risk, and develop recovery plans in the event of a project slip. Thus, this is a cross-functional role that requires coordination between many different groups within and outside of Tesla.
What You’ll Do
  • “Concept to completion” ownership of projects; drive project from concept through handover to production, acting as single point of contact
  • Manage road-map of projects working within the framework of the overall program. Define and drive manufacturing program plans outlining strategy, scope, schedule, resource requirements, and cost targets. Own report-outs for the projects highlighting status, risks, mitigations and opportunities across all levels of management within Tesla
  • Define and drive goals, deliverables, risks, and mitigations across all cross-functional stakeholders including design, manufacturing, controls, process, quality, infrastructure, logistics etc. through the various stages of the project: concept development, prototype testing, engineering design, system build, integration, testing, commissioning, and ramp
  • Prioritize team project work based on schedule, risk, resources, and payback. Track status of projects and action items against the schedule. Identify creative ways to overcome obstacles and meet the schedule despite setbacks. Continuously develop and adapt processes and methodologies to the team’s needs
  • Drive review, selection, budget, and schedule of external vendors and integrators for delivery of selected manufacturing project scope. Drive vendor partnership working closely with supply chain and purchasing team and ensure alignment on engineering requirements, scope, schedule and cost
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree or relevant experience in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering or similar technical discipline, and/or evidence of exceptional experience
  • 3-5 years working in a manufacturing environment, in a mix of engineering and project management roles
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of engineering projects for mass-produced products
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and manage large teams
  • Availability for travel domestic/international as required, sometimes multiple weeks at a time
  • Knowledge and understanding of Battery Cell technology a plus
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Solidworks, or other 2D/3D design tools is a plus
