Your impact

As ain
Manassas, VA, you will represent our Advanced Manufacturing Facilities Site Based Solutions team on the front line of our project sites, interfacing with our engineering team, client reps, and other key stakeholders to enable construction and installation of semiconductor equipment. In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide design quality and constructability insights to the design team for the installation of semiconductor fab equipment (tools) that add leading-edge manufacturing capacity to the owner’s high-tech semiconductor facilities. Each day you will demonstrate your technical project management, stakeholder leadership, and business acumen in a dynamic, fast-paced, and professional design and construction environment.

You will work collaboratively with project managers, design managers, equipment owners, fab support, and construction trades to enable construction to meet the owner’s desired outcomes. You will convey standards and requirements to the design team, ensure they have the required inputs and documentation, provide support and remove their constraints to allow them to produce and deliver quality design packages for construction. You will participate in field walks and meetings to ensure accurate and conflict-free design that is coordinated to field conditions.

As a Design Manager (DM), you will oversee Engineering Services During Construction (SDC) and provide key insights into the Basis of Design and Design Production project segments to ensure that engineering issues and scope changes are adequately answered to minimize impact and enable construction to be executed according to plans and specifications. This includes reviewing designs for quality, monitoring construction progress, coordinating between project stakeholders, and addressing any engineering-related issues that arise during construction.

Here's a more detailed breakdown of some of your responsibilities:

1. Reviewing and Approving Engineering Documents:

  • Reviewing engineering documents and specifications to ensure they meet project requirements and standards.
  • Ensuring that designs are constructible and feasible within the given project constraints.

2. Monitoring Construction Progress and Quality:

  • Attending daily site visits and construction operations meetings to monitor progress, proactively identify potential problems, and address questions and changes during construction.
  • Ensuring that construction is enabled and constraints are closed to allow construction to proceed according to plans within schedule and cost constraints.

3. Quality Assurance to Engineering Teams and Consultants:

  • Providing direction and feedback to engineering staff and consultants assigned to the project to ensure they provide clear and constructible design documents.
  • Assigning tasks and monitoring their progress.
  • Provide any necessary training to the engineering team to proactively prevent design issues from impacting construction cost and schedule.
  • Fostering effective communication and collaboration between internal engineering team members, equipment owners, fab support staff, system owners, trades, and construction management stakeholders.

4. Managing Engineering-Related Issues and Changes:

  • Identifying and resolving engineering-related problems that arise during construction through Requests for Information (RFIs) or design revisions.
  • Evaluating and approving change orders and design modifications.
  • Ensuring that changes are properly documented and incorporated into the project plans.

5. Communication and Reporting:

  • Communicating project status, progress, and any issues to the design manager, construction manager, project owner, and other stakeholders.
  • Preparing regular reports on engineering activities and performance.
  • Ensuring that all parties involved are kept informed of any engineering-related changes or issues.

6. Support to Design Management:

  • Other support to Design Management as required to support needs of the project.

In essence, you will act as the bridge between the engineering team and the overall construction project, ensuring that all engineering aspects are well-managed and integrated into the successful completion of the project.

Onsite employees are expected to attend a Jacobs Workplace on a full-time basis, as required by the nature of their role.
