The NEC Project manager is responsible for Impartial contract administration. Any prospective candidates should have experience of:

  • Leading with a Collaborative nature: Engaging a team whilst generating a collaborative nature is a key component when advising clients on the procurement and operation of Contracts; candidates should have experience of working in this way. Lead project teams in supporting functions, including the Supervisor and their team who will oversee the compliance of the works with the Contract, cost controllers where ‘open book’ audit is required, and planners for the analysis of Contractor programmes.
  • Scope Development: Experience in developing Scope and other Contract documentation in collaboration with Design teams is a must for any prospective candidates. Furthermore, assisting in tendering processes under relevant regulations would be desirable.
  • Pre-Contract Administration: Candidates should have experience in administering the contract as a manager and an agent of the Employer; this should include significant Understanding of the Works Information (NEC3) / Scope (NEC4).
  • Construction Phase Administration: Construction phase administration experience in terms of giving instructions to vary the works (Giving early warning of any risks or delays), the implementation of Compensation Events (CE’s) (including making assessments of CE’s – both time and cost) and responding to issues within the deadlines dictated by NEC is key to the successful completion of the role. Further, key experience should be in; the setting up of Contract Data, the auditing of Contractors accounts and records on Target Cost Contracts and the approval of Contractors submitted Programme. Experience in assessment of the programme (understanding float, time risk allowances concurrency, logic links, Key Dates, programming software) and making decisions based on such is also desirable.
  • Providing further support to the business: The role offers an opportunity to advise other teams on the application and operation of NEC contracts – experience of undertaking this in the past would be desirable.
Here's what you'll need
  • Degree in engineering, construction or another built environment subject
  • Chartered or Incorporated status with a relevant professional institution and Accredited NEC Project Manager or Supervisor (NECReg)
  • Ability to manage change and uncertainty while maintaining positive relationships with Clients, Contractors and internal teams and balance time, quality and cost to meet Client expectations
  • Experience of managing contractors, consultants and other advisors throughout large (at least £20 million construction value or equivalent) and complex construction projects, in a regulated environment.
  • Able to demonstrate strong management skills including project management, financial management, change management and facilitation.
  • Proficient in the use of estimating scheduling, programming and risk tools.
