What you need to know about the role-

Through managing a caseload of complex fraud investigations, High-Risk Fraud Investigators are provided the opportunity to work alongside leading investigations professionals in collaboration with law enforcement, private sector partners, and a broad array of internal stakeholders. This role requires a self-starter with the ability to think critically and strategically when handling investigations, seeing beyond the initial facts presented and reviewing information thoroughly and in a highly organized manner to drive an investigation to conclusion.

Your impact on HRFI’s mission will include protection of PayPal and our customers through direct action and broader change advocacy, elevation of the program through innovative tools and investigative techniques, enhancing partnerships both within PayPal and with external stakeholders, and furthering efficiencies and simplification in fulfilling regulatory requirements and more precise workstreams. HRFI is often tasked with investigation of some of the highest risk and most urgent threats facing the Company, therefore HRFI’s impact is frequently highly visible and rapidly evolving. Consistent with the significance and sensitivity of casework assigned, HRFI Investigators are required to operate independently, manage multiple competing priorities, and exhibit a sense of urgency when necessary.

Your day to day

In your day to day role you will...

  • Shape and execute comprehensive, high quality end-to-end investigations to identify complex fraud patterns, trends, and typologies impacting PayPal and the global user community. Communicate findings concisely, accurately, and clearly to all levels of leadership.
  • Drive investigations to a timely conclusion following the completion of a comprehensive analysis of information across multiple platforms and jurisdictions.
  • Identify potentially suspicious activity and fulfill time-sensitive regulatory filing obligations, including writing and filing Suspicious Activity Reports/STRs.
  • Conduct deep-dive root cause analyses that consider policy and product opportunities, and clearly and succinctly identify contributing factors.
  • Lead engagement and partner with internal stakeholders and external partners in thinking and acting critically to identify opportunities for collaboration, raise awareness of investigative findings, and develop recommendations to mitigate risk.
  • Lead direct engagement and support law enforcement, where applicable, to include guidance on providing proper legal process, as well as drafting crime reports, victim declarations and witness statements. Provide court testimony, as needed.

What do you need to bring-

  • Established experience conducting investigations related to cyber-enabled fraud, cybercrime, complex fraud/AML and/or other criminal activity relevant to the financial services industry.
  • Technical skills needed include proven ability to analyze large amounts of data in order to report critical information with functional and practical data query and analysis skills (SQL, SAS, Teradata, Hadoop, Splunk, I2, Maltego etc.) and proficiency in the use of a personal computer and its applications, including Windows and Windows-based applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Expert written, oral and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex information accurately, clearly and efficiently to diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute, independently or collaboratively, investigative strategies with a results-oriented focus and consideration of long-term effects.
  • High level of integrity, professional judgment and commitment; able to maintain composure under pressure and make sound decisions.
  • Familiarity with regional Anti-Money Laundering regulations and guidance (e.g., the Bank Secrecy Act, 5AMLD and USA PATRIOT Act).
