Key Responsibilities
- Inspect water, sewer, solid waste, and other construction projects to ensure compliance with specifications, drawings, and quality standards.
- Read and interpret detailed engineering drawings for layout and construction conformity.
- Prepare daily inspection reports, detailed diaries, and maintain accurate records of project progress and quality.
- Attend pre-construction and site meetings, collaborating with construction managers, engineers, and contractors.
- Maintain construction records for material usage, excavation quantities, concrete/reinforcement placements, bedding, and backfill materials to support progress estimates and "as-built" documentation.
- Oversee the inspection of materials, including aggregates, concrete, asphalt, pipe fabrication, linings, coatings, and field-applied corrosion protection on pipelines.
- Perform grade and alignment checks and basic soil investigations.
- Ensure staff and contractors adhere to safety regulations and understand project specifications and drawings.
- Supervise and direct one or more junior staff members.
- Oversee contractor work, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Here's what you'll need
- Intermediate Certificate in Civil Engineering Technology from BCIT or another recognized technical institute.
- At least two years of directly related and progressive experience.
- Valid BC driver’s licence.
- Sound knowledge of engineering terminology, standard practices, and quality control testing procedures for materials used in water, sewer, and solid waste projects.
- Strong understanding of safety procedures, including WorkSafe regulations, with the ability to apply them effectively.
- Proficiency in computers and applicable software.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to liaise with teams and contractors effectively.
- Ability to work independently and supervise junior staff.
