This hybrid production/system engineer role will be in charge of both the health and maintenance of the production systems as well as the operation of the production systems during events.The System Engineer within Event Productions should have a strong background in technical problem solving skills to support the operational engineers when systemic problems arise, and proactively, when invention and efficiency can be implemented to solve problems before they occur. Production technologies require systematic backup systems so that a buffer is created where the team and client will have knowledge of an implemented backup plan, but the end customer (attendee) will hopefully never even know a problem occurred. This requires system engineers to have a deep understanding of their systems to quickly identify root cause and offer efficient solutions to maintain production stability.Responsibilities include:
* Proactively engage with production team to pursue process improvements.
* Search out opportunities to help others improve skillsets and knowledge base.
* Contribute as a subject matter expert in the field of audio/visual production with an emphasis in video and lighting production.
* Design, program and operate live events with autonomy, taking the customers’ ideas and delivering an outstanding product.
* Ensure industry best practices are followed with a safety-first mindset.
* Track and report on inventory statuses and needs, and ensure adequate stock of event critical items are available and at the ready.
* Event setup and technical coordination of assigned systems.
* Recommend technical resource scheduling for equipment and labor script.
* Thorough testing of equipment use cases ahead of event.
* Clear communication with all team members.Day-of Event support* Be prompt and available during requested call-times when supporting an event
* Promptly communicate with appropriate team members any known risks to help ensure the success of the event.* Participate in post-event feedback discussions/surveys.
* Report, track and be able to help solve any technical issues that arise during the course of an eventBasic qualifications* Minimum 5 years experience in live event productions
* Ability to setup and operate digital audio, video and lighting mixing consoles for a live show
* Proven experience with break/fix support for production equipment
* Ability to create and edit in Microsoft Office platforms (Word, Excel, PPT)
* Familiarity with producer-led show calling
* Familiarity with production specific health and safety
* Ability to lift and move up to 50lbs
* Demonstrated experience with inventory management
* Ability to setup a basic IP-based network that supports the connectivity of multiple audio-visual devices and protocols
* Familiarity with matrix-based signal routing systemsPreferred qualifications* 2 - 4 year degree in A/V, technical theatre or related field, or equivalent experience.
* Knowledge of Paradigm systems.
* Knowledge of Ross Video Systems
* Knowledge of Vectorworks or similar design softwareThis is a full time, 40/hr week position with adaptive event hours (not necessarily normal business hours) with occasional weekend support required throughout the course of the year.
Key job responsibilities
This role will be directly responsible for the health and success of all the production equipment located within the venue. This role will also directly work with the rest of the System Engineers and Production Engineers within the Event Production organization, to ensure that the quality of the systems and the operating procedures remain of bar raising quality.A day in the life
