What you need to know about the role:

Your day to day:

• Research and Innovation : Investigate and apply the latest machine learning techniques to address PayPal's unique business challenges.
• Data Analysis : Analyze and interpret complex data sets to derive actionable insights and inform decision-making.
• Algorithm Development : Develop and refine machine learning algorithms, focusing on scalability and performance. Build and maintain large-scale big-data machine learning solutions, toolkits, and libraries for deployment in production environments.
• Collaboration and Communication : Work closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, engineers, and product managers, to integrate machine learning solutions into products and services.

What do you need to bring:

• Background : Master’s degree with 4+ years of experience, or PhD with 2+ years of experience as a Machine Learning Engineer or in a similar role. BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or related technical discipline (or equivalent).
• Team Collaboration : Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment. Fluent in English with flexible working hours to collaborate with international teams.
• Machine Learning Expertise : Strong understanding of various advanced analytical and machine learning methods. Excellent knowledge of machine learning frameworks such as Keras, TensorFlow, and PyTorch, as well as MLOps platforms. Hands-on experience in the end-to-end ML lifecycle.
• Learning and Research : Passionate about learning state-of-the-art machine learning frameworks and algorithms from both academic and industry sources, with a habit of reading relevant research papers.

• Technical Skills : Excellent understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures, and algorithms. Familiar with object-oriented design methodology and application development in Python.
• Big Data Technologies : Familiarity with Big Data related technologies to manage large volumes of complex data, such as SQL, PySpark, and BigQuery.
• Problem Solving and Creativity : Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively. Ability to think outside the box and approach challenges with innovative solutions.
• Work Ethic : Willingness to work hard while also having fun in a dynamic and engaging environment.
