The Principal Sustainability Advisor (PSA) to the Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) is a key strategic partner and advisor to the CSO, who leads the company's vision and strategy for environmental sustainability. The PSA:

  • Helps the CSO prioritize, align, and execute Microsoft’s sustainability agenda;
  • the CSO in internal and external engagements;
  • Fosters a culture of collaboration, innovation, and impact across the organization; and
  • sdiverse sustainability practices, allowing the PSA tooperate


Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Business, Operations,Finance,Management, Environmental Science, Liberal Arts) AND8+yearsworkexperiencein environmental science, sustainability program management, or sustainability strategy
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years management (e.g., people, project, process, vendor, change) experience.

or Preferred Qualifications

  • Studies), AND 12+years experiencein environmental science, sustainability program management, or sustainability strategy
    • ORMaster's Degreein relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Environmental Science) AND10+years experiencein environmental science, sustainability program management, or sustainability strategy
    • OR equivalent experience
  • Depth of knowledge of sustainability fundamentals, including key areas of sustainability accounting (GHG Protocol, SASB, GRI and TCFD standard reporting), carbon reduction, carbon removal, carbon-free energy, water, and waste.
  • Experience andexpertisein advising and working with C-suite executives and leaders in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, with the ability toanticipatethe needs and preferences of a range of individual leaders.
  • Track recordof thought leadership on corporate environmental sustainability issues, challenges, and opportunities, including competitive and regulatory landscape, and peer/leader best practices.
  • Experience designing, managing, and implementing sustainability programs, including carbon, water, waste, ecosystems, environmental justice, and employee engagement.
  • Proficient communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with ability to tailor messages and influence diverse audiences.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with ability to synthesize complex information and provide clear and actionable recommendations.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated, with ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and resilient, with a positive and proactive attitude.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic counsel and technicalexpertiseto the CSO on all aspects of the sustainability agenda, including goal setting, program development, technical standards, and reporting. Stay current on the latest developments in sustainability, including monitoring and analyzing the competitive and regulatory landscape,identifyingbest practices, tracking emerging trends, and surfacing opportunities for improvement.
  • Leverage credibility andexpertiseto act as an executive-level Microsoft sustainability advocate and evangelist, providing global thought leadership and driving impact across solution areas and/or countries.Maintaindeepunderstanding of customer scenarios and evangelize sustainability internally and externally.
  • Develop and orchestrate execution of sustainability enterprise strategy and deliver strategic planning. Partner with teams across the company to track the efficacy of plans to drive long-term sustainability growth for the business. Coordinate with peers to drive end-to-end accountability for scorecard metrics and key performance indicators.
  • Look across Microsoft organization and recommend how to unify different initiatives to ensure we are delivering on our sustainability commitments efficiently. Assess and propose initiatives and partnerships considering technical feasibility and cost effectiveness.
  • strategic priorities to drive impact that changes company strategy, programs, or initiatives. Take a One Microsoft approach to partnership across peers and leadership to ensure alignment and drive business impact worldwide. Participate in rhythm of the business cadence connections with CELA, sharing insights back to the business.
  • Actively engage cross-team in One Microsoft orchestration. Grow sustainability understanding and capabilities in partnership with peers, resulting in executive understanding and employee awareness of sustainability principles.
