Description
We are looking for someone who is passionate about engineering and thrives on innovation. The role will require strong mechanical design skills, an ability to lead projects, and excellent communication skills both with vendors in Asia and designers inside Apple. You will be responsible for creating and driving innovative mechanical or product design, driving failure analysis, building prototypes, studying analytical models, implementing corrective actions, and organizing DOEs as we study new designs. Experience closely working with suppliers is important as well. The engineer in this role will be very comfortable with applying scientific method and have been able to apply or create the process through which they can solve complex problems.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Enrolled in Bachelors/Masters/PhD studies in Mechanical engineering or related field
  • Excellent English communication skills: both written and verbal, ability to clearly communicate design ideas and interact with co-workers
  • Fluent in Mandarin communication
  • Experience in mechanical design, hands-on trouble shooting, 3D CAD (NX preferred)
  • Engineering fundamentals: statics, strength of materials, material science
  • Flexible in traveling up to 50%
  • Be able to commit at least 3 months full time (5 days per week) or 6 months part time (at least 3 days per week)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic design skills: tolerances analysis, design for assembly (DFA), design for manufacturing (DFM), simple fixture design, understanding of Statistical Process Controls (SPC), understanding of metrology (basic knowledge of measurement systems)
  • Ability to create and drive innovative mechanical or product designs, using tools such as FMEA, design of experiments (DOE), GD&T including datum establishment and tolerance analyses, and collaborate with FEA team
  • Design intelligence: mechanical intuition, creative problem solving, spatial reasoning, diligence in finding the best solution for each design challenge, attention to detail
  • Experience in design cycle from concept through manufacturing
  • Experience in designing mechanical components for high volume manufacturing - injection molded parts, sheet metal components, die-cast and machined parts
  • Participate in the development of manufacturing processes with multi-functional teams and external vendors, acting as product development technical liaison among vendors
  • Communicate technical status of projects multi-functionally, including throughout the management structure
  • Complete tasks necessary to deliver product timelines
