As an Analyst in our Global Trade group, part of our Indirect Tax Practice, you’ll join a collaborative team who identifies planning opportunities to help clients minimize their import duty and import tax burden as well as fulfill compliance responsibilities and avoid penalties. A Global Trade Analyst supports Global Trade advisory engagements and Trade Operations managed services engagements. You’ll work with driven and team-oriented colleagues while using cutting-edge technology.
Core elements of the role include
- Demonstrating an understanding of import and export operations, customs planning and compliance concepts and effectively applying customs and international trade knowledge to client situations
- Advising clients on customs compliance issues, potential duty savings strategies, and duty recovery claims with the help of senior staff
- Independently managing multiple assignments
- Carrying out technical research, reviewing import documentation, analyzing import transaction data, preparing summaries
- Assisting with the drafting of memos, letters of opinion and various reports
- Developing and delivering timely services and work products that meet or exceed client expectations
- Preparing blanket adjustment schedules and assisting in the compilation of complete submission packages
- Supporting clients’ customs outsourcing assignments under EY managed services mandates where entry document packages, product classifications, origin determinations and free trade claims need to be reviewed
- Assisting clients on CARM platform related matters including go-live transition and post implementation compliance support activities
- Identifying opportunities for additional Global Trade and indirect tax engagements
To qualify for the role you must have
- A bachelor’s degree, preferably with an emphasis on international trade, law, accounting, finance or a related field
- 2 or more years’ customs experience gained through any of the following
- advisory services or consulting
- customs brokerage or an internal industry customs function
- experience at the Canada Border Services Agency or US Customs and Border Protection
- indirect tax
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities; functional French fluency is a definite asset, due to the national scope of the work, fluency in English is required
- A proactive approach to work, a high level of motivation and a commitment to keeping abreast of advancements in relevant technologies
This role will interact with external clients plus internal colleagues and stakeholders across Canada, therefore fluency in English is required. French - English bilingualism is an asset.
Ideally, you’ll also have
- Enrollment in, or completion of the Certified Customs Specialist - CCS – designation program
- Experience in Data Analytics
- Familiarity with Customs compliance management software
