Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform various classes of painting as exterior (roof flashings, parking signs), interior (walls, ceilings, using oil paints and enamel; doors woodwork, furniture, using stains and varnishes); decorating including striping; and paints hot water, boiler room, and other tanks, machines, motors and other steel and iron pieces. Mix paint and match colors by stirring together the proper proportions of pigment, base, and thinner.
  • Prepare walls, etc., for painting by drywall taping, washing, priming, sizing, patching, removing old paint, etc.; clean iron pieces for painting by washing and scraping.
  • Work from both written and verbal instructions. Able to effectively use the computer software designated by Plant Engineering. Work with cross-functional teams, including engineering groups, manufacturing groups, vendors, etc. Contact vendors and fill out purchase requisitions to order parts as needed.
  • Complete required shop paperwork and use reporting system following established procedures, which includes computer entry, entering comments, and time reporting. This includes daily work records, PM route sheets, stock withdrawal forms, and other forms and records that may be required in the performance of the job or operation of the department. Knowledge and use of overtime sign-up and overtime distribution.
  • Set up PM’s on new equipment installations to customers or manufacturer’s recommendations. Modify or change PM’s and or frequencies on existing equipment if the equipment is modified or per customer or manufacturer’s requirements. If the equipment is eliminated, dispose of equipment properly and delete PM’s.
  • Move material, equipment, and machinery using approved methods of lifting, rigging, hoisting, blocking, skidding, and rolling, to specifications.
  • Report unsafe work conditions or equipment operation to supervisor immediately, which includes use of Site Safety Forms. Report any observed unsafe or non-compliant work activity to supervisor immediately.
  • Keep work area neat and orderly, contribute effort toward the overall cleanliness and safety of the shop and cleans up the general working area (shop and/or production) at the completion of each job.
  • Work safely when performing the job requirements in hazardous and non-hazardous environments to avoid personal injury, injury to co-workers, or damage to company property. Follow site hazardous waste disposal and containment policies and procedures.
  • Follow corporate policies and procedures including code of conduct, safe work procedures, and safety policies, including the usage of personal protective equipment; follow corporate procedures, quality processes, and checks and communicate effectivelycross-functionally.


To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Possess a High School Diploma/GED or higher.
  • Minimum of five years of painting experience
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship program
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to work on the weekends, overtime, holidays as needed, and short notice coverage.
  • Employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Painting experience in an industrial setting
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Performs at an acceptable craft skill set level to meet plant, production, and quality requirements.
  • Possesses the skills to perform mathematical calculations needed to complete tasks.

Pay & Benefits:

  • The starting rate of pay for this position is $42.84.
    This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience.
