As a Construction Cost Estimator / Document Control Engineer, you’ll join our collaborative team providing our clients with award-winning engineering, construction management, and design-build project delivery. We are looking for a cost estimator with a background in transit, highway, roadway and bridge construction. As a Cost Estimator (onsite), you will have an understanding of principles, theories, concepts, industry practices and standards associated with the management of project costs. You will support the construction management team by:
Review and understanding of construction plans, specifications and contract documents
Preparing independent cost estimates for contract and change order work
Performing quantity takeoffs
Reviewing Contractor Proposals and claims
Drafting recommendation letters to the client
Tracking change orders and project costs.
Responsibilities may also include providing general support to the rest of our project controls team, including assisting with contractor schedule reviews, reporting, and document control.
In this role, you'll communicate with members of the Jacobs team, client, and contractor and work together to mitigate or eliminate project risks. You’ll be accountable for interacting with our construction sites, clients, and management to support the project team. 5 years of cost estimating and project controls experience in highway, roadway, bridge and/or transit projects.
Experience on Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT), Illinois State Toll Highway Authority (ISTHA), Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), Metra, and/or Cook County Department of Transportation & Highways projects
Proficiency with Microsoft applications, including Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook
Experience with project management systems including eBuilder
Experience with HCSS and other bidding software
Excellent organizational and written and verbal communication skills
Ideally, you’ll also have:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline
Engineer in Training-EIT certification, Professional Engineer (PE) license, or Certified Construction Manager (CCM)
Experience using the IDOT Construction Materials Management System (CMMS)
Current IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities certification
Experience with Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project
