Director, Global Policy and Multilateral Engagement
Additionally, the Director will communicate Company policy positions, build and maintain working level relationships with international organizations and industry associations, and prepare and staff the Executive Director, AVP, and VP in interactions with multilateral organizations on issues in their portfolio. This includes developing and executing advocacy strategies for policies under consideration at the WTO, WIPO, and WHO.
The role is based in US (Washington, DC, Rahway, NJ, Philadelphia, PA, Upper Gwynedd, PA), Belgium (Brussels), or Switzerland (Zurich, Lucerne, Geneva) and may require travel to engage with international organization leaders and government officials at multilateral and global policy events.
Scope of work and core responsibilities include:
Develop and execute multilateral policy strategy in portfolio areas, including IP, trade, and innovation policy. Serve as subject matter expert to Director, Policy Advocacy for creation of tailored, compelling policy advocacy materials for multilateral audiences and execute tailored stakeholder advocacy plans on must-win/must-mitigate MLO issues.
Generate and sustain relationships with technical experts in multilateral organizations such as the WTO, WIPO, and WHO, and other influential organizations to promote company business objectives in line with our Company’s global policy priorities.
Represent our Company in engagements with multilateral organizations to deliver key messages and advocate for policies that align with company objectives.
Differentiate our Company by securing thought leadership roles within multilateral organizations and industry associations to advance company objectives and develop cross-sector coalitions as appropriate.
Proactively identify strategic engagement opportunities in policy portfolio areas aligned to business objectives and develop materials for briefing senior leadership for meetings with multilateral organizations and other officials.
Provide regular communication and analysis to Executive Director, AVP, and cross-functional teams on key policies under consideration in multilateral forums to inform business strategies and policy priorities.
Represent the company to industry association working groups on issues in portfolio, including the IFPMA Innovation, IP, and Trade Committee (IIPT).
Serve on planning teams for company engagement at key multilateral events, including the World Health Assembly and UN General Assembly. Develop and contribute to briefing documents for senior leader engagements at these events.
Contribute to quarterly and annual strategic planning and evaluation processes for the GPP organization.
Manage consultants as required.
Position Qualifications:
Education Minimum Requirement:
Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s or Doctoral degree in public policy, public health, public administration, economics, political science, or political economy strongly preferred
Required Experience and Skills:
Accomplished public policy professional with at least 10 years’ experience in international government affairs with a preference for candidates with experience working with or in multilateral organizations
Demonstrated experience staffing senior government officials or business executives
Pharmaceutical sector, medical device, or related policy background preferred with specific emphasis on pricing and reimbursement, intellectual property, and trade policy
Deep understanding of multilateral organizations’ role in shaping global health and pharmaceutical industry policies
Superior interpersonal, leadership, diplomacy, and negotiation skills
Ability to manage time-sensitive, competing priorities with effective project management
Self-starter with innovative spirit. Ability to inspire and lead task teams and working groups without authority
Effective in collaborating with people at all levels of an organization and willing to contribute wherever needed, providing leadership to operational activities as well as to senior executives
Fluent in English, verbal and written. Excellent writing and communication skills with the proven ability to develop new, innovative ways to influence policy deliberations in a rapidly changing environment
High degree of ethics and ability to build effective internal and external working relationships
Ability to travel up to 10-20% per year

U.S. Hybrid Work Model
Effective September 5, 2023, employees in office-based positions in the U.S. will be working a Hybrid work consisting of three total days on-site per week, generally Tuesday, Wednesday and either Monday or Thursday, although the specific days may vary by site or organization, with Friday designated as a remote-working day, unless business critical tasks require an on-site presence. The Company is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this job in certain states and cities within the United States. Final determinations with respect to salary will take into account a number of factors, which may include, but not be limited to the primary work location and the chosen candidate’s relevant skills, experience, and education.
Expected US salary range:
$181,600.00 - $285,800.00
