Software (SWA) comprises the definition, specification, and allocation of requirements from different sources utilising knowledge of systems engineering processes (specification & architecture). Contains processing of use case and feature requirements into conceptual models, operational scenarios, technical requirements, and functional description. Covers specification, design, implementation, and unit testing of Software (e.g. device drivers, microcode, hardware-related software & firmware) according to the requirements and architecture defined in the systems engineering process. Covers establishment and maintenance of Software Configuration Management (SCM) practices into software development projects, continuously building and integrating infrastructure tools and systems.


As part of our team, you will be an experienced Optical Management System Developer who interacts with development team members to understand the scope and intent of the assignment. You will translate feature concepts into a software design, complete a peer review, develop and optimize feature functionality to meet the design specifications and resolve any software issues found during testing the feature. You are at the front end of the R&D process, directly reporting to an R&D Technical manager in our Optical Network Management organization, and will have a peer relationship with Network Element Developers.

You have:

  • A degree in a technical field such as Computer Science or IT, and 1+ years previous work experience in Telecommunications or Software Development or a successful co-op position in the Telecommunication area
  • Software Development Process know-how including planning, developing, deploying, and supporting software solutions in an agile environment
  • Fluency in English with solid written and oral communication skills


It would be nice if you also had:

  • Previous co-op experience at Nokia is preferred.
  • Python programming experience
  • Exposure to Machine Learning tools and techniques (e.g. Neural Networks)
  • Optical Networking (WDM/OTN/Packet) experience
  • Exposure to Eclipse or IntellliJ, GIT, Maven/Gradle, Shell, and Linux
  • Understanding of database concepts and SQL
  • Scripting skills for ksh/bash/perl
