Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • 7+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of large-scale facility networking infrastructure projects within datacenters or other comparable experience (healthcare, enterprise, large retail, critical environments, healthcare, government etc.) including design considerations of fiber strand counts of more than 288 single mode.
  • 5+ years of experience in Telecom designs based on industry standards, building codes and safety standards including Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) Standards, Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual (TDMM), Rural Utility Services (RUS) Standards, American National Standards Institute / Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers / International Electrotechnical Commission (ANSI/IEEE/IEC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), National Electrical Code (NEC), and building codes.


Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) or Data Center Design Consultant (DCDC) certified.
  • Familiarity with ground-up construction, greenfield and brownfield site development requirements.
  • Action-oriented with a passion for getting things done quickly, efficiently, and effectively.
  • Experience withComputer-Aided Design (CAD) programs such as AutoCAD or Revit.
  • Technical understanding of mission critical environments and the associated telecommunications facility considerations for Layer 0.
  • Ability to lead multiple projects of varying timelines while managing project expectations.
  • Detailed understanding for structured cabling components.
  • Familiarity with high-level construction administration.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Effective written and verbal communications skills.
  • Prior experience with Bluebeam
  • Experience using MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel including effective reporting/presentations of project information.

Responsibilities

As Datacenter Engineering Senior Telecom Engineer,you will effectively and efficiently drive the design of all aspects of the physical networking infrastructure during design and address any design-related issues that arise during construction for all Microsoft datacenters/co-location facilitiesfor their assigned projects.ou will work with stakeholders and partner on standards, requirements, and materials as specified; Lead design workgroups and drive cross-functional meetings for multiple, concurrent capital projects. You will be tasked to manage issues, decisions and risks, collaborate on driving initiatives to improve the efficiency and quality to scale with the growth of Microsoft. As a critical thinker, You will develop Statement Of Work (SOWs) and design documents, then review and evaluate bids and options for physical telecommunication infrastructure (Layer 0) and optical cablingincluding both Inside Plant (ISP) / Structured Cabling Solution (SCS) and Outside Plant (OSP); and be able to evaluate operational impacts, deployment, and implementation challenges associated with retrofit designs for both Microsoft Owned facilities and Lease sites; utilize established telecommunication requirements to design special, non-conforming projects, retrofits, refreshes, and other duties as assigned.

  • Provide data center Layer 0 telecommunications designs (Specifications, Drawings, Schedules and Bill of Materials (BOMs) within CAD and/or Revit drawings and / or direction toArchitectural / Engineering (A/E) firms for outside design work.
  • Collaboration with internal & external customers, lead project specific network technical delivery & oversee the delivery of multiple, concurrent, complete Datacenter design solutions aligned with the scopes, schedules and budgets of the projects with a focus on facility telecommunications.
  • Collaboration with Global Technical Governance team, Global Strategy teams and DCE Operations Team to utilize Base of Design documentation to create and/or oversee the creation of the datacenter telecommunication designs from established basis of design (BOD) to issue for constructions (IFC) and through the Construction Administration phase of datacenter until handover for new Datacenter (DC) project build-outs, leases, special projects and / or network upgrades.
  • Collaborate with cross organizational teams such as engineering design teams, delivery teams, operations teams, contractors and suppliers.
