Role Outline

  • As an Estimating Lead within our Major Projects business, you will have a leading role in career defining programmes.
  • The Estimating Lead within the Jacobs team is a key role within an integrated delivery team with significant responsibility. You will develop the Jacobs Estimating Team within the Major Projects business and will be responsible for the management and development of your team.
  • Within a wider team you will be recognised as an Estimating expert able to make a difference to drive best outcomes for our Clients.
  • You will report to a Commercial Lead or a Capability Lead
  • As an Estimating Lead you may be responsible for leading a professional estimating team.

  • Proposing and implementing innovative value propositions in the market that support customer strategy and differentiates from the competition.
  • Delivery of the Jacobs, CMS and CMS-I strategy and key outcomes, as a team member of the Jacobs Nuclear Power Projects Commercial team.
  • Shaping customer thinking and supporting customers change programmes.
  • An entrepreneurial approach, contributing to innovative and smarter value propositions and pricing/commercial offerings.

Delivery Excellence

  • Ensuring that operations are transparent, ethical, effective, efficient and in line with the Jacobs vision, mission and strategic goals, with appropriate governance in line with company policy.
  • Cultivating Innovation and creating new and better ways for the framework to be successful and drive positive change and continuous improvement.
  • Embedding sustainability in solutions and project delivery.
  • Effective supervision and management of delegated cost estimating scope of work, together with the day-to-day supervision of the estimating team for which you are responsible.
  • Managing Supplier / Contractor relationships.
  • Providing support to the Client, Commercial team and or other functions.
  • Extensive experience in estimating large scale infrastructure projects such as roads, heavy civils, tunnelling & ground engineering, utilities etc. Experience in the water and environment sector is of particular interest.
  • Advising and managing Client strategies for Estimating at all project lifecycle stages from concept, study, FEED and detailed design using both parametric and bottom up estimating methods.
  • Techniques to produce robust cost estimates and /or to carry out financial analysis and due diligence / benchmarking exercises.
  • Professional development of self and people within the team.
  • Stepping up to address difficult issues — saying what needs to be said and doing what needs to be done.

All measured by project KPI achievement, zero write downs and excellent Client Satisfaction Survey (CSS) scores and ultimately overall achievement of delivery targets.

Here's what you'll need
  • Member of the RICS or equivalent professional body
  • Effective cost estimating skills, with clear knowledge of best practice cost estimating methodologies.
  • Strong leadership, collaborative and team working skills, with the ability lead large, complex teams.
  • Able to demonstrate principles for best practice cost estimating.
  • Good understanding of commercial management, risk management and change, claim management andUK legal and regulatory framework.
  • Experience of carrying out an estimating role within a major programme environment
  • Experience with most common Forms of Methods of Measurements & Contracts (NEC, FIDIC and JCT) within the construction industry and major projects and programme environment; with knowledge of UK Law and its impact upon the contract and commercial function
  • Experienced at operating in senior roles/levels; comfortable in managing stakeholders effectively at a senior level.

Desirable

  • Experience of working on major water infrastructure programmes.
  • Experience with using Estimating Software packages (CostX)
  • Knowledge of New Rules of Measurement (NRM) 1 & 2
  • SC level clearance.
