What You'll Do
- Execute a comprehensive and pragmatic safety assessment program for reviewing the approaches to safety of potential AV partners’ utilizing Uber’s Safety Guidelines
- Monitor and participate in the development of emerging safety regulations, standards, guidelines, and best practice activities related to autonomous vehicles and provide key insights to Uber’s internal stakeholders and AV partners
- Participate and support the generation of industry positions, identifying market trends, and monitoring federal research as it relates to AV safety.
- Collaborate with different functional teams across Uber, including engineering, product management, legal, policy, and communications to provide input to product requirements documents, policies, and procedures on AV safety-related topics.
- Support engagement with policy makers, regulators, and industry groups to discuss Uber’s commitment to autonomous vehicle safety and refine aspects of our approach, always seeking to incorporate and advance the state of the art
- Continuously improve our AM&D safety program to help demonstrate our commitment to understandable and appropriate levels of safety for autonomous vehicles on the Uber platform
Basic Qualifications
- A minimum of 8 years experience in automotive or transportation system safety
- Familiarity with functional safety, operational safety, safety management systems, safety cases, safety critical software development, and safety data analysis
- Experience in understanding transportation safety data sources, extracting insights from data, and summarizing findings / takeaways
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills, and the ability to convey complex technical topics succinctly and persuasively.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field such as engineering, mathematics, computer science, and physics
Preferred Qualifications
- A minimum of 10 years experience in automotive or transportation system safety
- Knowledge of the regulatory landscape relating to the testing and commercial operations of autonomous vehicles in the U.S. and internationally
- Experience working with industry standards organizations such as SAE, AVSC, IEEE, and/or ISO to develop standards and best practices related to autonomous vehicles
- Experience in establishing or reviewing automotive safety assurance programs, especially related to Automated Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), Automated Driving Systems (ADS) or other safety critical transportation systems
- Master’s Degree in a technical field such as engineering, mathematics, computer science, and physics
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$180,000 per year - USD$200,000 per year.
For Washington, DC-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$180,000 per year - USD$200,000 per year.
