We advise through the full lifecycle of core infrastructure projects and public-private partnerships across Canada and globally, from strategy, policy and business case development, transactions and ongoing asset management, renewal and disposal. Our work is across asset classes including transportation (e.g., transit, highways, airports), healthcare, environment (e.g., waste), energy, mining, social infrastructure, schools, and municipal facilities. In Toronto you will join a team advising at the forefront of some of the largest and highest profile Canadian and local projects such as the Ontario Line Subway (ON), Ontario’s Infrastructure Digital Twin Program (ON), Capital Line Light Rail Transit (AB), VIA High Frequency Rail (ON/QC), Corner Brook Acute Care Hospital (NL), Trillium Health Partners M-Site (ON) and Halifax Heating & Municipal Services Upgrade Project (NS).

Your key responsibilities


As an Associate or Senior Associate, you will have the opportunity to work within our SaT Infrastructure Advisory practice. You will have an integral role that involves working closely with other members of the rapidly growing national Infrastructure Advisory team to execute a variety of engagements related to the planning, development, delivery and operations of major infrastructure projects.

  • Able to competently undertake and oversee thoughtful quantitative and/or qualitative analysis, with a willingness to learn or develop your analytical skills, and a strong level of technological literacy.
  • Able to research and analyze information from a range of sources including financial, commercial, public policy, academic and industry sources to be used in competitive analysis, industry analysis, financial and non-financial scenario analysis and negotiation support, and various other applications
  • Lead in the development of clearly written, quality drafts of reports and presentations for client submissions and meetings, owning and leading on the content for deliverables and lead in executing on EY’s high standards of quality review.
  • Interested and capable of growing in terms of sales and business development, contributing to executing EY’s “go-to-market” client development strategy, and bringing a point of view on key trends and challenges in infrastructure, to benefit our clients.
  • Capable of providing hands-on day to day leadership of project teams, building trusted relationships with clients, and playing an active role in the development and mentoring of junior staff.

To qualify for the role you must have

  • Undergraduate degree (business, commerce, economics, law or engineering);
  • Associate: 4+ years of relevant work experience and Senior Associate: 6+ years of relevant work experience in an infrastructure related field; with relevant experiences across one or more of:
    • Major capital projects, including strategy and policy, development of project options and business cases
    • Commercial advisory and/or consideration of alternative procurement models
    • Financial analysis and modeling, and/or consideration of economic costs and benefits
    • Contract management, disputes and/or asset management.

Some or all of the following are considered desirable, but not mandatory:

  • MBA/Master’s degree/CFA/CBV
  • Experiences managing and mentoring junior staff
  • Strong preference will be given to candidates who have gained such experience from either:
    • a professional services environment with relevant infrastructure related project experience and/or commercial and financial advisory experience; or
    • an infrastructure developer in a project development capacity; or
    • a governmental (municipal, provincial or federal) infrastructure department/agency
  • Financial modelling experience with major capital projects, with the capacity to develop such models independently with minimal guidance
  • Working knowledge of accounting concepts and principles (CPA not required)
  • Working knowledge of debt financing and capital markets and/or project financing markets, including reflection of these in a financial modelling and commercial document context
  • Working knowledge of capital project procurement models (DBB, DB, CMAR, IPD, PDB, P3, Alliance, etc.)
  • Strong analytical skills and capability to provide quality deliverables with an attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfortable presenting to senior client personnel
