Medical Scientific Liaison – Oncology

Responsibilities include, however not limited to:
Being product and disease state experts who engage in non-promotional scientific exchange with SLs or KDMs (Scientific Leaders or Key Decision Makers). Execute Field Medical Engagement Plans within the scope of local and global policies, local rules and regulations and aligned with the Field Medical SOP.
The MSL’s primary responsibility is to engage in non-promotional peer-to-peer communication with medical/scientific information to SLs and KDMs on their roster, based on scientific exchange and services oriented towards the stakeholder’s professional interests & needs. They do this by:
- Defining and maintaining a roster of Scientific Leaders and Key Decision Makers in their therapeutic area.
- Interacting with identified Scientific Leaders and healthcare administrators (KDMs) by exchanging balanced medical / scientific information and by appropriately communicating these exchanges with internal colleagues.
- Utilising scientific and medical expertise to communicate scientific information in individual and group presentations.
- Responding to unsolicited requests for medical, scientific, pipeline, MISPs or our company product information from SLs or KDMs utilising appropriate approved scientific materials and appropriately documenting the use of these resources.
- Providing medical support where appropriate, to enhance appropriate access of patients to our company products through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheduling process, formularies, and treatment guidelines.
- At Global Clinical Trials Organisation (GCTO), GDSA or CORE personnel request, supporting the identification of potential study investigator/sites for sponsored studies.
- Providing insights internally on scientific gaps, ideas and other topics gathered from scientific exchange to inform SRD, MISP areas of interest, clinical trial programs, development programs and company TA strategy.
- Ensuring various engagement metrics (both quantitative and qualitative) are achieved.
- Providing on-label medical insights and training to internal colleagues including our company and competitor products and disease state with their therapeutic knowledge.
- Attending / participating in scientific congresses/meetings in Australia and internationally to understand the role of emerging data on patient treatment within the TA covered, allowing for more balanced Scientific exchange.
- Support the preparation of non-promotional Medical Education Programs
- Performing all company business in accordance with our company policies and procedures and country regulations (e.g.MA Code of Conduct).
What You Must have
Tertiary qualifications in a Medical degree; PhD in health sciences; or a pharmacy degree.
If pharmacy degree a minimum of:
Prior solid pharmaceutical industry experience.
Or, prior years in an in-field customer facing role in the pharmaceutical industry, is preferred.
- Clear and concise communication skills (viz. verbal, written, presentations) and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated analytical skills and a solid understanding of research methodology.
- Ability to learn and convey medical/scientific information to healthcare professionals and decision-makers.
- Knowledge of Australian pharmaceutical industry guidelines (MA Code of Conduct), regulatory/reimbursement
- framework (TGA, PBS) and clinical research guidelines (ICH-GCP, NHMRC National Statement, Declaration Helsinki).
- Ability to travel extensively (up to 60% of the working week).
