Job Purpose

Advises and guides the company, and demonstrates leadership on EHS matters to ensure the safety and health of the workforce, and the protection of the environment. Ensures the company is aware of, and complies with applicable environmental, health and safety legislative and other requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the implementation and improvement of the Environmental Management System. Participate in audits of the Management System on a scheduled basis.
  • Stay informed of current and new Environmental regulatory requirements and other guidelines considered for implementation.
  • Maintain plant statistic, performance to goals and other records necessary to document EH&S Management System status and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Manage all aspects of the site’s waste management programme.
  • Represent Boston Scientific to outside parties, such as regulatory agencies.
  • Represent Boston Scientific at local and national government bodies to ensure legal EH&S compliance.
  • Maintain metrics for assessing EH&S effectiveness.
  • Direct all aspects of chemical handling and hazardous waste management to remain in compliance and maintain operating efficiency by assessing efficiency and cost-effectiveness, determining the most suitable method for handling specific types of waste, and ensuring that operating practices are in full compliance with regulations.
  • Works with Supervisors, Trainers and Technicians to identify and control significant environmental, health and safety impacts of operations.
  • Takes a central role in working with internal committees and training efforts.
  • Ensures that all required records are prepared and maintained.
  • Participates in and prepares for EHS inspections by external agencies, and all system audits.
  • Investigates, prepares, communicates and manages reports on incidents, injuries, ill-health, and corrective actions as required.
  • Supports and contributes to the site’s life safety programmes to include emergency response.
  • Understands and proactively follows through on the Environmental Management Procedures that have been identified as relevant to position.

Education & Experience

  • Level 8 qualification required in EH&S or relevant discipline.
  • Ideally 5 years + experience working within an EHS function in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience of Chemical Safety, Waste management and ISO 45001 & ISO 14001 management systems implementation would be a distinct advantage.
  • Excellent organisational, planning, communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and influence at all levels of the organisation.
  • Full understanding of EH&S requirements and relevant legislation.
