You will be supporting fire and emergency services in NYC - Randall’s Island, New York, and be responsible for the inspection, testing, and repair of 3M Scott Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) products.

As a
Service Technician, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Successful completion of certification training in the inspection and repair of 3M Scott SCBA Products, including use of product specific tools and test equipment
  • Demonstrating competency in the general understanding and usage of technical manuals, drawings, and processes
  • Demonstrating competency in the selection and usage of standard hand and power tools
  • Researching technician manuals, guides, bulletins, and instruction manuals to determine corrective actions required on returned products
  • Providing written analysis of repairs done to returned equipment to include repair actions and parts requiring replacement
  • Conducting service work in accordance with prescribed receiving, internal tracking, and return procedures as directed by Service Center Manager
  • Conducting cylinder hydrostatic testing utilizing following DOT guidelines
  • Conducting respirator fit testing in accordance with various regulatory guidelines

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED or higher (completed and verified prior to start)
  • Experience in a private, public, government, or military environment supporting fire and emergency services

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include

  • Associate degree/Technical Diploma or higher within a mechanical discipline from an accredited institution
  • Experience and knowledge in the use of various hand and power tools
  • Experience working in a 3M Scott Authorized or In-House Service Center
  • Experience in hydraulics and/or high pressure supplied air systems and compressors
  • Experience understanding and demonstrating your attention to detail using technical manuals, drawings, and processes
  • Interpersonal Skill Requirements:
    • Must communicate effectively with other team employees as needed
    • Must exhibit a “Can Do” and “Want to Do” attitude of flexibility
    • Must be positive working in a team environment assisting in the overall success of the service team
    • Will be required to participate in problem solving and continuous improvement activities
    • Must be willing to help others
