The Assistant Controller will play a critical role in supporting the Controller in overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with statutory and tax requirements, and driving improvements in financial reporting, planning, and analysis. This role is designed to enhance oversight, reduce the span of control, and strengthen internal controls across EY Canada’s finance function.
Your key responsibilities
- Financial Oversight & Reporting
- Support the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Oversee statutory reporting, tax compliance, and cost recovery processes.
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial reports.
- Planning & Analysis
- Contribute to the development of annual budgets and forecasts.
- Provide analytical support for strategic initiatives and ad-hoc financial modeling.
- Partner with national departments to support planning and reporting needs.
- Operational Excellence
- Monitor and improve internal controls and compliance with EY policies.
- Collaborate with the Payroll, Real Estate, and Allocations teams to ensure accurate reporting and cost management.
- Lead or support finance transformation initiatives aimed at automation and process improvement.
- Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Act as a liaison between the Controller and various finance sub-functions.
- Mentor junior finance staff and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
- Coordinate with global and jregional finance teams to align on best practices.
Skills and attributes for success
- CPA designation required.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting or financial management, preferably within a professional services or multinational environment.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP, tax regulations, and internal controls.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative mindset.
- Experience with SAP, SuccessFactors, or similar ERP systems is an asset.
