About the Role:

Senior Supplier Engineer role concentrates on all aspects of supplier selection, supplier process & material changes required on value improvement projects, new product introduction & sustaining projects for Global Sourcing Category teams. This includes managing suppliers for BSC products across different BSC divisions.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Works with suppliers around the globe to understand materials manufacturing processes and technologies. Acts as technical expert to ensure repeatable and reproducible quality/reliability during the life of the product.
  • As a technical lead, actively engages in Global Sourcing category teams, establishes and executes Global Sourcing category objectives, including material cost reductions.
  • Serves as the technical representative on a category team, participates in category team strategies, and delivers to short and long-term goals.
  • Manage and support the identification and development of new or existing supply sources with Global Sourcing colleagues. Collaborates with other BSC cross functional resources in identifying insourcing/outsourcing opportunities.
  • Develop negotiation strategies with Global Sourcing colleagues to maximize value add initiatives
  • Assess value and financial impact for new business opportunities and value add engineering projects.
  • Proactively identifies and executes material cost reduction projects (Material VIP) with suppliers at all Tiers in the supply chain to meet Plant, Division and Category goals. Establishes and supports a work environment of continuous improvement and influences cross-functional team members to support and drive value improvement projects.
  • Drives troubleshooting processes, supplier process assessments and lean manufacturing tools implementation on-site at supplier facility.
  • Investigates and evaluates new and existing material technologies for use in future products or improve quality/reliability of current product.
  • Proactively conducts risk assessment on sourced materials and builds installed capacity and capability at suppliers. Plans and executes service risk mitigation measures to ensure continuity of component sourcing to BSC manufacturing.
  • Interfaces with suppliers and category team members to support investigation of supplied material issues or supply constraints.
  • Works with R&D to research, develop, design and evaluate metal or plastic materials for use in medical device applications.
  • Partners with manufacturing, quality, and/or Sustaining R&D/DA/PM to execute changes initiated by BSC or by the suppliers; such as improvement projects, supplier capability, supplier capacity and compliance projects.
  • Serves as a liaison between function and core team; compiles experimental results and communicates them to core team; communicates resulting impact of the data to project team.
  • Leads and/or participates in large scale projects: responsible for the scoping, resources definition, approval, budgeting, specification, execution, qualification and handover as appropriate.
  • Continuous monitoring and reporting of variables that feed into the business performance metrics, and pro-active identification and resolution of issues around same.
  • Successfully contributes to current product support, typically including the following activities: process capability studies, process development, Six Sigma and Process Improvement, report preparation and process/test documentation.
  • Provides technical leadership/guidance for the Supplier Engineers II and I on the team.
  • Develop and execute department budgets – headcount, overhead/project spend and capital planning/control
  • In all actions, demonstrates a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality by maintaining compliance to the Quality Policy and all other documented quality processes and procedures.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials, Chemical, Mechanical, Electromechanical, Electronic, Electrical Industrial or equivalent experience.
  • English Level required: 85% - 90%.
  • Desired knowledge: Tools (Statistics, Technical Manuals, Kaizen,Six Sigma), Process Improvement, Problem Solving, AutoCAD, and Solid Works.
  • Project management: ability to influence cross functional global teams spanning quality, operations, R&D, and sourcing.
  • Desirable experience in medical device or other regulated industry.
  • Previous experience working with suppliers
  • Ability to work independently; organized and self-driven.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate with internal and external teams.
  • Strong bias for action and results orientation is critical.
  • Individual must be self-motivated to learn and use that knowledge to produce results.
  • Articulate communicator, strong presentation skills and ability to communicate effectively with individuals on all levels (written and verbally). Appropriately scaling information to the intended audience.
  • Desirable knowledge and experience in material testing.
  • Desirable experience with metal or plastic components.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time (domestic and international)
  • At least 4-5 years of experience in similar position.
