Key job responsibilities
Scope and Influence
• You document what your team’s software does; how it is constructed, tested, and operated; how secure it is; and how it fits into the bigger picture. When new teammates join, you actively train them in these points.
• Your work focuses on delivering software features and improvements to major portions of your team’s software. This is not just new software but often includes refactoring and deprecation work.• You are able to resolve disagreements with peers through constructive dialog.
Ambiguity
• You design software solutions to enable new features or improve software. You may still require guidance from your team’s leadership to ensure your designs are in alignment with your team’s long-term architectural strategy.
• You effectively make priority tradeoffs between new feature development and operational work.
Technical Complexity
• You work on difficult problems with visible risks or roadblocks. You bring clarity to problems and identify simple designs for solutions.
Execution
• You are a significant contributor to the full software development lifecycle, including scoping, software design, UX review, code, testing, deployment, and maintenance of the team's software.
• You demonstrate operational excellence in all of your work.
• You are active in operational support for your team, and ensure that the root causes of operational issues are identified and mitigated / resolved. This might include a change not only to the code, but also the UX. You don’t settle for the status quo, and routinely identify and execute on opportunities to improve your team’s operations.
• You are active in the code review process on your team, providing meaningful feedback to others, including those who are more senior.
• You are judicious when introducing dependencies and efficient when using the customer’s hardware.
Impact
• Your work positively impacts the software quality, customer experience, and maintainability of your team’s product(s). You are starting to balance customer requirements with team requirements.
• You take on projects and make software enhancements that improve team software and processes.
• You mentor and help to develop others. You help recruit and interview for your team.
A day in the life
You'll be surrounded by people who are incredibly passionate about AWS technology and our product. We are functioning cross-organization. You are expected to make fast data-driven decisions, and implement features with high quality. The team is based out of SEA and SJC, so you will whiteboard ideas with Sr. SDEs and PEs and come up with proof-of-concepts to showcase what is possible.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
