We are looking for a Transmission Lines Engineer. The primary role would require you to undertake technical and non-technical activities in the planning, design and construction of overhead Transmission Lines. You will support project delivery and business growth in the Transmission Lines practice area. Manages Transmission Line project deliverables, scope and schedule within a multi-discipline design project. You will support Jacobs’ virtual teaming strategy including work-sharing and mobility across the business, follow Jacobs’ quality assurance and technical review procedures. The Transmission Lines Engineer will also be responsible for leading preparation of proposals (bids) for design work, providing estimates for Transmission Line project components and coordinating inputs from other disciplines.
You will prepare conceptual designs for Transmission Line works including relevant supporting design reports, prepare detailed design drawings, reports, specifications, bills of materials and other documentation for Transmission Line works, inject constructability considerations to positively influence design outcomes, review contractor design documentation and project implementation schedules and procedures and prepare and review capital cost estimates.
- The Associate Engineer is responsible for providing consultancy and engineering services in the Power Overhead Lines market in the APAC region.
- Deliver technically compliant design solutions for overhead line engineering.
- Strong knowledge and skills around the use of Line Design Standards (New Zealand and preferably Australia, ASCE) for such as AS/NZS 7000, ASCE 10-15 and IEC standards.
- Strong knowledge in producing detailed design output associated with transmission line design including all electrical and mechanical hardware including bill of materials.
- Being able to handle input from aerial/ ground-based survey by importing this successfully into PLS-CADD.
- Being able to prepare a good quality PLS-CADD line model of complex line design of LV to HV comprising of structural M4 models.
- Carry out all checks associated with clearances in PLS-CADD and produce deliverables for projects required for line design.
- Being able to carry out independently design of towers, poles and substation gantries using PLS-TOWER, PLS-POLE and/ or SpaceGass or StaadPro.
- Being able to carry out independently footing design using LPILE, GROUP or any other software recognised by industry standards.
- Being able to accurately estimate the load for overhead structures using relevant international or local standards/ codes of practice.
- Being able to understand technical risks and challenges around stringing and maintenance including constructability, maintainability and operability risks and address these in the designs.
- Be able to independently carry out design checks/ reviews/ technical assurance on assigned Projects.
- Active participation in engineering delivery for specific project assignments and contribute in the technical input for bid preparation.
- Manage time and cost assigned on individual tasks associated with project delivery.
- Develop and maintain strong internal team relationships – act as a trusted resource to peers and cross-sector teams within Jacobs Power and Energy business unit.
- Assist the team leaders/ section leader to actively contribute in technical papers/ presentations and business development initiatives.
- Keep abreast of new methods and developments in engineering tools and software to drive effectiveness and avoid re-work/ re-inventing the wheel.
- Maintain compliance with Jacobs QA procedures, including the deliverables review QA process.
- Facilitate/ support the technical development of more junior such as graduate engineers and any other resources including offshore (Global Integrated Delivery Team) resources to meet project delivery requirements.
- Tertiary Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering and at least 10 years’ experience in overhead transmission line engineering.
- Has well-rounded expertise in own job discipline and high level knowledge of other job disciplines within the Power industry.
- Advanced user of PLS CADD, TOWER and POLE (or at a minimum has a strong understanding of the PLS software packages).
- Delivers projects, or aspects of, on or under budget.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Strong communication with ability to convey this verbally and in written reports.
- Ability to assist in development of engineering service proposals and fee estimates.
- Must have an experience in the Power industry.
- Has a sound understanding of technical fundamentals in the relevant Transmission Lines discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, or Structural) and can solve engineering problems from first principles for overhead lines up to EHV level (230kV and above).
- Has an in-depth understanding of Transmission Line standards including ASCE, BS EN, IEC or any local standards.
- Can troubleshoot his/her modeling by using alternative line engineering techniques.
