About the Role

As an Engineering Manager, you will be driving our next wave of investments making Uber's Global Background Check Platform and Operations more reliable and intelligent. You will lead a team of engineers in Seattle and work closely with globally distributed cross-functional teams to make Global Earner Screenings fast, reliable and intelligent. As a strategic thinker you will continuously uplevel the problem space, while defining the engineering strategy of the platform that spans multiple years.

a) Screenings funnel intelligence to optimize for cost-efficient growth

b) Multi vendor marketplace ensuring vendor resiliency

c) Global screenings funnel analytics

d) Leveraging LLM for making decisions on unstructured data

What You'll Do:

  • Drive product and engineering vision for Global Screenings
  • Drive next wave of investments to make Global Screenings funnels intelligent and automated through investments in modeling, LLM
  • Strengthen the Operational Health of the tech stack through investments in better monitoring, automated testing and re-architecture
  • Continuously improve the productivity and velocity of the engineering team.
  • Manage performance of individual engineers, providing coaching and real time feedback.
  • Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, operations and other engineering teams.
  • Influence global Operations teams

Basic Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Software Engineering Manager with a track record of successfully leading teams in developing critical software.
  • Deep understanding of backend software development
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to encourage and empower a diverse team.
  • Ability to work with product management and shareholders to drive vision
  • Validated ability deliver high-quality software products on time and within scope.
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience as an EM

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing multiple teams through leads or managers
  • Experience managing/partnering across timezones
  • Strong background in distributed systems

For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$218,000 per year - USD$242,000 per year.
