At Jacobs, we don’t just lead the development and implementation of environmental remediation and environmental compliance and management solutions, we live it. We’re looking for an experienced Environmental Scientist to work on complex site characterization and remediation projects for government and private-sector clients. Based in Reston, Virginia, you’ll work with a multi-disciplinary team consisting of experienced engineers, geologists, and consulting staff on a variety of field and office tasks related to planning and implementing environmental investigation and remediation projects. You’ll learn from our experienced staff of professionals’ who are ready to mentor you, and you’ll pass your knowledge on to others. You’ll gain valuable experience in soil and groundwater sampling as well as drilling and subcontractor oversight, spending 50% of your time in the field. You’ll balance your field work with office work evaluating and reviewing data, writing reports, and preparing project documents, and coordinating logistics for field activities. You’ll be juggling multiple tasks, so we’ll rely on you to prioritize effectively, keeping the big picture in mind. Safety will be your priority, as you contribute to “incident free” operations and maintain the highest standards of Health & Safety in everything you do.

*Please Note -- This is a Hybrid Work-From-Home position. To ensure you’ll be successful in this role, we’re seeking someone local to Metro Washington D.C. area, as the position will require occasional local field work and office visits

Here's what you'll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relative professional work experience within environmental consulting.
  • Professional on-the-job experience related to performing and leading environmental field work for site characterization and remediation projects, and an understanding of field methodology and procedures.
  • Experience performing subcontractor oversight of various activities including environmental drilling, utility location, and remediation.
  • Knowledge and experience with various media (e.g., soil, soil vapor, groundwater, surface water and sediment) investigations, data assessments/evaluations, and remediation technologies.
  • 40-hr HAZWOPER certification, OR the ability to achieve this certification and experience participating in health and safety programs.
  • A valid driver’s license with no major infractions; must be able to pass a MVR/motor vehicle record pre employment screen.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.

Ideally, You’ll Also Have:

• 4 to 6 years of relative professional work experience within environmental consulting.

• Certification as a Geologist in Training (GIT) with the goal of attaining professional licensure in Virginia.

• Experience performing safety hazard analysis and mitigation associated with environmental remediation tasks, and writing safety operating procedures (SOPs).

• Construction oversight experience.

• Team and safety-focused, possessing a solution-based work approach.

• Experience working on active project sites and overseeing subcontractors.

• Strong attention to detail when conducting field work and evaluating data.

• Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and in a team environment with a “no task is too small” attitude.

• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and work collaboratively with internal team members and client facility stakeholders.

• Knowledge of computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and data management software.
