Maintenance Operator (Apprentice II – Mechanical)


Under the direction of the Manager, Maintenance and within one’s area(s) of qualification and/or certification, provides maintenance support for equipment, utilities, systems and facilities to enhance productivity, quality and safety. Performs a variety of tasks, including, but not limited to installation, modification, repair, fabrication, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, set-up, commissioning or execution of protocols, in accordance with established SOPs, GMP and EH&S requirements. Required to work with appointed Journeyperson(s) to learn and perform assignments/instructions/tasks in alignment with apprenticeship plan.

This is a night shift position located in Stouffville, Ontario

How you’ll spend your day
  • Perform or assist with set-up, change-over, preventative maintenance, installation, modification, troubleshooting, maintenance and/or repair of Site equipment, utilities, systems and/or facilities in accordance with established SOPs, GMP guidelines and EH&S policies. Work in a team environment.
  • Identify, recommend and implement, when approved, improvements to line procedures, equipment, utilities, systems and/or facilities to enhance the productivity, quality or safety of products, processes and/or procedures.
  • Perform safe operational checks on equipment and systems. Detect and investigate variance in performance of equipment, utilities, systems and/ or facilities to ensure proper functioning, identifying concerns as required. Knowledge of applicable codes / standards
  • Identify an OEM or spare part by consulting machine manuals when required. Communicate with Manager about a purchase prior to initiating a purchase request. Creates a work order in CMMS. Follows TEVA purchasing guidelines.
  • Execute qualification and/or validation protocols for the installation, commissioning and/or operation of equipment, utilities, systems and / or facilities as required. Complete required compliance documentation, logbooks, timesheets, etc. when executing duties.
  • Complete and maintain current training and awareness of related legislated codes, EH&S procedures, SOPs and GMP requirements. Completes ongoing training to respond to technology changes at the Site, as well as improving knowledge of facilities, systems and equipment. Completes ongoing training towards achieving licenses / certificates. Completes all assigned training pertaining to SOP’s, EHS, and GMP on the computerized training system on time.
  • Stays abreast of all legislative codes related to job function.
  • Successful and continual completion of technical aptitude assignments and competencies required for Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development, Industrial Millwright Mechanic Apprenticeship Program.
  • Complete proper documentation requirements to remind, organize or inform.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritize, analyze, plan, implement, and adjust goals and objectives to meet needs.
  • Must demonstrate ability to solve moderately complex problems and analyze and apply appropriate solutions.
  • Skill in computing moderately complex ratios, rates, statistics, averages and percentages.
  • Ability to read, interpret and prepare layouts, diagrams, schematics and manuals.
  • Follow SOPs and acceptable industry practices to develop basic mechanical trouble shooting.
  • Perform outlined procedures for regular machine preventive maintenance.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Your experience and qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Registered in an approved Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) – 433A apprenticeship program, preferably at 4th level, with the Ontario College of Trades.
  • Three (3) years of relevant mechanical experience.
  • On track to complete the Certificate of Qualification (C of Q) examination to become a licensed Millwright.
  • Millwright / Electrical Techniques program completion preferred.
  • Good mechanical aptitude. Candidates shall be required to demonstrate mechanical skills by completing assessment.
  • Proficiency in the use of tools, equipment, and measuring/ calibration/diagnostic devices. Basic knowledge of electrical, hydraulics and pneumatics. Proficiency in BAS, CMMS, PLC, E-mail, Windows. Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Working knowledge of maintenance and knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), WHMIS requirements and regulations
  • Familiarity with facility, critical systems, manufacturing and packaging equipment.
  • Works in a safe manner, adhering to company health and safety policies and industry safety requirements to ensure a healthy and safe workplace.
