Provides significant contributions to the definition of system requirements and the architecture of complex subsystems and systems. Able to architect entire subsystems in some cases. May write subsystem requirements in some cases. Able to write subsystem specifications and drive the implementation on certain subsystems.
Signs off and approves designs for the subsystems and systems assigned. Leads and influences the design reviews up to the subsystem level. Influences design engineers to use design review rigor and design for X techniques: such as design for performance, value, integration, outsourceability, manufacturability, maintainability, diagnostics, serviceability, total cycle time, COGS, quality, reliability, regulatory, etc
Provides input to the top level system specifications, system error budget, interfaces and working parameters for the optimum hardware/software solution. May have ownership of subsystem performance on complex systems. Able to plan and lead experiments and conduct trade-off studies required to make major architecture decisions on complex subsystems
Writes test plans, including developing the specifications for modules and some subsystems, and leads the data analysis and completion of these tests. Supports high level systems testing and troubleshooting of new systems. Able to write a test plan for a new subsystem or system. Provides significant contributions, and may lead the testing of certain complex improvement projects or subsystems.
Provided significant contributions to the design for any outsourced complex subsystem, including vendor selection, NRE spending, specification writing, design reviews with the vendor, build, test, acceptance and successful integration into a system. Able to lead the outsourcing effort for small projects
May lead or provide significant contributions to enable cross functional teams to solve system problems from MFG and the field. Able to lead a cross functional team on product improvements.
Able to investigate the development of new features for complex systems. Able to make contributions to the N+1 and N+2 product roadmap. Familiar with the latest available technologies and roadmaps
Able to influence peers and junior engineers to accomplish program goals. Is effective at supporting divisional and/or functional vision(s) and can work with the team to achieve the visionary goals with which they are challenged. Potential to lead and acts as a change agent when required for key corporate, functional, and/or group initiatives generally focused on changes that impact their department. Is a recognized expert in their area of expertise within their division and may work with other groups within a division.
Able to communicate effectively with peers, interdisciplinary engineering groups, customers, and with vendors and other cultures as necessary. Able to give effective technical presentations up to the PLC and divisional levels
Able to diagnose complex subsystem problems across algorithms, software, electronics, mechanics, and optics and apply the 8D and/or the 7-Step problem solving technique, or other methods as appropriate. Able to support the detailed analysis and tradeoffs for the various solutions, and provide input on which solution to implement. Able to diagnose subsystem and some system issues and lead cross functional engineering teams to solutions, employing the best use of cross functional engineering teams.
Skilled in the design of Semiconductor Inspection and Metrology Equipment. (Division specific.)
Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new or special assignments. May supervise the activities of others
