The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a(n) Project Engineering, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Identify “user requirement specifications” for use in the documentation of specific equipment performance, design and acceptance criteria for capital equipment/projects
  • Estimate capital equipment and installation costs
  • Oversee plant equipment layout and design
  • Gain understanding of applicable codes and guidelines to insure designs meet standards
  • Define and execute competitive bidding strategy
  • Collaboration with business partners identify and document financial justification for capital project funding approval
  • Manage project timelines and budgets for assigned projects
  • Successfully interact with multiple discipline teams including 3M plant personnel, consultants and suppliers
  • Coordinate construction activity
  • Lead equipment commissioning
  • Protect 3M intellectual property
  • Communicate effectively to project team, facility staff and project owners


To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Three (3) years of capital project management in a private, public, government, or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Experience in chemical manufacturing processes including batch and continuous chemical manufacturing
  • Skills include: assembling project plans, fluent in the use of, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project
  • Ability to work with people in the development of capital equipment plans as a team player, leading teams to make decisions about changes in manufacturing processes, equipment integration and value propositions

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
