What to Expect

A Sr. Manufacturing Controls Engineer in the Production Engineering team will be a part of operating, sustaining, and optimizing advanced manufacturing equipment and leading-edge technologies. The best candidate for the position has a high aptitude for learning and adapting quickly in a high paced environment. In this role, you will work closely with cross functional manufacturing teams to provide technical controls, electrical, and automation support for new coatings line equipment. You will drive improvements to factory control systems, ensuring standardization and effective knowledge sharing across manufacturing lines.

This role will be based out of the Greater Houston Area (TX) and will require 90% travel to the Bay Area (CA) to support early builds and validation support for the next 6-12 months.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop, debug, and document structured PLC code interacting with conveyors, robots, MES, vision systems, and 3rd-party equipment
  • Design user-friendly SCADA, ANDON, and HMI systems for the manufacturing lines
  • Design NFPA79/NEC/UL508A-compliant control panels and create electrical, pneumatic, and fluid schematics. Implement ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA-compliant safety systems for high-volume manufacturing equipment
  • Take ownership and present on metrics (station level and overall line level) while planning and implementing continuous improvement projects to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) across different automated stations
  • Lead equipment upgrades, retrofits, and repairs with a focus on design intent, manufacturability, serviceability, reliability, and process capability
  • Takes initiative to create, propose, implement and improve standard operating procedures for the equipment and stations within the area of ownership
  • Support 24/7 operation
What You’ll Bring
  • 5+ years of experience as a hands-on Controls Engineer or Applications Engineer working on automation and/or electromechanical systems
  • Demonstrated ability in PLC, HMI, and debugging mechatronic systems
  • Exposure to programming at least two different types of PLCs and motor controllers – Siemens, Rockwell, Beckhoff, SEW are the primary equipment brands used in the factory
  • Exposure to programming robots online and offline – Fanuc, Kuka, Durr are the primary brands used in the factory
  • Proficiency with CAD (AutoCAD, CATIA, SolidWorks, CATIA, EPLAN)
  • Knowledge and experience of the complete project life cycle from scoping through to equipment handover is essential
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or equivalent experience
