We are recruiting for a member of staff to deliver projects on train specification, design, construction, testing, approvals and introduction. We have delivered projects in recent years in this area to help our clients with the introduction of a new fleet of trains and supported the processes as shown in these examples:

  • Feasibility for the replacement of the ageing rolling stock on the Merseyrail network in Liverpool
  • Creating technical specifications for new rolling stock for UK and International clients, Merseytravel and RapidKL
  • Reviewing the suppliers design for new rolling stock for Merseytravel and Irish Rail
  • Witnessing the construction of the new rolling stock either by having an on-site representative or auditing key processes
  • Witnessing the testing and validation process at the build site, test facility and on the operator’s infrastructure
  • Assessment of the approvals process and challenging the manufacturer to provide the evidence required to support the introduction of the new fleet of trains
  • Working with all the key stakeholders involved in the introduction of the new fleet

Responsibilities

  • Undertake a feasibility of a replacement fleet, assessing the best course of action for the client, e.g. refurbishment, introduction of another existing fleet or bespoke new fleet purchase, etc.
  • Project management of the technical requirement for the new fleet, technical or performance specification, impact to infrastructure, operational restrictions and future improvements required, timetable improvements, etc.
  • Support the tender process, contracts, specifications, supporting documentation, tender evaluation and independent review processes, etc.
  • Design reviews for the client or independent technical advisor for the client on the whole or part of the design of the rolling stock. Assessment of the design against the technical specification and the validation and verification processes being provided by the manufacturer
  • Supporting documentation to be delivered with the new fleet to be assessed and accepted by all stakeholders, e.g. vehicle maintenance instructions, drivers’ training manuals, interface documents e.g. WiFi technical requirements for the onboard system, etc.
  • Project management of the fleet delivery, including the testing, commissioning, fault free running and acceptance processes
  • Reliability improvement technical support for the client, assessment of the technical issues from the introduction of the new fleet.

This role will require the candidate to work within the budget and timescale requirements of projects and to have the ability to travel in line with business needs, especially in the UK and Ireland.

Here's what you'll need
  • Experience in the introduction of new rolling stock
  • Proficiency with the use of Microsoft Office especially in the use of Word and Excel applications
  • A general knowledge of rail vehicles and vehicle systems from work with a consultant, manufacturer, vehicle owner, train operator, contractor or infrastructure controller
  • An understanding of the main systems used on modern rolling stock and willingness to learn about new technologies and systems being introduced on new fleets of trains
