The SPARC organization manages Azure’s hardware roadmap from architecture concept through production for all of Microsoft’s current and future on-line services. Well-defined and executed strategic planning ensures products meet the requirements for performance, features, and time-to-market. The ability to draw insights from a deep understanding of the cloud HW Infrastructure landscape and industry trends is critical in informing the roadmap and planning decisions. Deep technical understanding of our hardware architecture, workload modeling and analysis are necessary to make informed, data-driven decisions. Our hardware technology pathfinding work helps keep our product portfolio competitive by maturing new concepts for productization. Together these functions are able to create a strategic hardware and technology roadmap.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of computer engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years experience with computer architecture, performance analysis, workloads, and performance simulation.
  • 3+ years experience in engineering development and/or research.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ of experience in engineering development and/or research.
  • Ability to understand and solve problems leveraging cross-stack optimizations spanning algorithms to silicon.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a large organization spanning multiple teams of hardware, software, and systems engineers and stakeholders.
  • Desire to collaborate, motivate, and contribute to a team of engineers.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities
  • The candidate will be the trusted partner in the areas of computer architecture optimized for Microsoft Cloud first party services, workload analysis and benchmark development, and other related areas.
  • Workload Champion: The candidate will become a workload champion by collaborating with key first-party software experts. This involves understanding the application, creating dossiers, and becoming the key interface between application experts and hardware architects.
  • Develop Benchmarks: The candidate will be responsible for developing benchmarks that accurately represent customer workloads. They will also be required to analyze and characterize these benchmarks across various architectures.
  • Collaboration: The candidate will collaborate closely with other key software and hardware architects. This collaboration will involve architectural pathfinding and the definition of system/hardware architectural specifications.
  • The candidate will be expected to create and maintain best practices for high-quality product engineering. They will also need to develop best practices for development and conduct architectural reviews.
