Key job responsibilities
Mechanical Engineer II in the Robotics Work cell Hardware Design remit includes:
• Working with an interdisciplinary team, following the Product Development Process, to execute robotic work cell product designs from concept to production including developing specifications, designing, prototyping, testing, and validation.
• Designing and adapting holistic hardware solutions for ambiguous problems with fluid requirements.
• Designing and integrating industrial automation and motion control systems into functional work cells.
• Performing static and dynamic mechanical systems inspections using FEA as well as traditional hand calculations.
• Validating concepts through engineering models and prototypes.
• Creating design of experiments and leading cross-functional experiments.
• Creating comprehensive design documentation, including drawings, requirements, functional specifications, and design validation plans/reports, ensuring information is readily available for future iterations and compliance.
• Releasing products following defined ECO process.
• Working with software engineers to comprehend design tradeoffs across hardware/ software for seamless integration.
• Specifying industrial automation components such as motors, actuators, pneumatics, sensors, and safety systems.
• Working with Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Quality organizations as well as vendors for a smooth product launch and sustainment.
• Exhibiting role model behaviors and stewardship of thorough engineering evaluations and cradle to grave ownership.
A day in the life
Your day to day remit will include interfacing with our internal and external customers to grasp project requirements and facilitate Robotic system development. You will solve problems that are part of designing state-of-the- art robotic work cells. You will be working in an environment where time is considered the most precious commodity. You will partner across the development teams to design and deliver the work cells. You will work directly with hardware engineers, software engineering, project management, quality, and safety teams to develop and manufacture your product at scale.1. - BS in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering or similar.
- Established background (4+ years) in Robotics or Mechatronic Systems with full product lifecycle experience.
- Knowledge and application of mechanical engineering principals and concepts in product design.
- Knowledge of electrical circuits, and components including sensors, actuators, power distribution and control systems.
- Experience evaluating design, performance, and tradeoffs for hardware systems.
- CAD experience. Understanding part and assembly design, configuration management best practices.
- Experienced with GD&T, Tolerance and stack up inspections.
- Experienced communicating with written engineering concepts and concept prototypes.
- Experienced in DFM/ DFA and fabrication with plastics, sheet metal, weldments, and machined components.
- Experience in design of complex robotic or mechatronic products and equipment with a focus on designing for the human/ machine interaction and Ergonomics.
- Working knowledge of various manufacturing techniques, knowledge of materials and general fabrication techniques.
- SolidWorks or similar CAD experience and knowledge of best practices for part design, advanced assemblies, configuration management.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks Simulation or ANSYS Finite Element Analysis tools.
- Proficiency with documenting designs in accordance with ANSI Y-14.5 and managing Product Lifecycle with PLM tools and ECOs.
- Basic experience using embedded/firmware programming tools and programming for embedded systems.
