What to Expect

The Sr. Utility Compliance Engineer will be responsible for energy product deployment and product development support activities of the Codes, Standards and Regulations (CSR) team within Compliance. The role primarily provides coverage of industrial/utility codes and standards requirements impacting timely execution of industrial energy storage projects. This function includes leading and supporting initiatives among team members from Compliance, Engineering, Policy, and Operations to ensure streamlined approvals by utilities across North America and to a lesser extent internationally. These initiatives focus on approvals related to utility interconnection requirements, utility outreach on new products and technologies, and compliance to grid related product standards. The Utility Compliance Engineer will also support the team’s core codes and standards development activities through research, white papers, and active participation in grid/utility related stakeholder committees such as IEEE 1547.

What You’ll Do
  • Support product and project engineering with utility regulatory expertise and design-for-compliance activities
  • Support Operations team with utility approval escalations hindering product installations
  • Join external groups and committees to support grid codes/standards development activities
  • Work directly with utility representatives on interconnection related issues as products evolve
  • Develop white papers supporting product compliance and deployment
  • Provide technical expertise in support of Policy team regulatory initiatives
  • Support communication of documentation and group activities
  • Support regional CSR activities by participating in local utility meetings and hearings to promote codes and standards language enabling energy product deployment
What You’ll Bring
  • Engineering Degree, or similar degree involving electrical & renewable and/or energy storage focus, or equivalent experience
  • 5-7 years work experience in project engineering, project development and execution, and coordination with utility interconnection processes
  • Understanding of utility regulations and their development/application
  • Technical understanding of PV and Storage technology
  • Strong personable skills to interact with building officials and utility staff
  • Excellent professionalism and integrity
  • Able to organize time and tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Punctual with appointments and deadlines
  • Strong project management and analytical skills
  • Able to travel up to 30% of time
