With our Quantum Sensing team located in Cambridge, UK, you will contribute to cutting-edge technology research into vector magnetometry for magnetocardiography (MCG) applications. The fields associated with biomagnetism are very weak, many orders of magnitude smaller than the Earth’s magnetic field. Our team aims to build a cost-effective yet highly sensitive quantum magnetometry that can effectively detect and tracking these fields.
We work with a nitrogen vacancy centre in diamond system, which offers trigonal symmetry with four possible orientations in the diamond lattice. The resonance frequency of these NV centres therefore depends not only on the magnitude of the magnetic field, but also on the angle between the field and the NV axis, allowing for vector magnetometry.
Currently a candidate for a PhD program in Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Nanotechnology, Computer Science, or related field.
It would be nice if you also had experience with:
• RF Circuit design and RF Modelling (COMSOL and/or MATLAB)
• Electronics and hands-on physical experiments
• Condensed matter physics with coding experience (preferably Python) and extensive motivation in theoretical/computational modelling
• Experience in optical or RF readout of NVD quantum resonances
During your placement, you will be able to test the latest technologies and work on innovative projects that could leave a global impact. You get to use skills learned in the classroom and apply them to real-world situations while gaining professional hands-on experience.
