Job Description
In this role, you will lead on our Access & Systems priorities across the Medical Affairs directorates, by bringing best practice and acting as the medical subject matter expert to our therapy areas (Oncology, Vaccines and General and Specialty Medicine).
You will support the Head of Life Cycle Excellence, the Country Medical Executive Director and the wider medical affairs teams, in setting and delivering the Access & Systems strategic medical plan tactics in collaboration with the therapeutic area subject matter experts, towards delivering operational excellence.
You will provide operational leadership on implementation of our Early Access Program (EAP) strategy (e.g., pre-license and post-license patient access programmes, EAMS, compassionate use) across the medical organisation, as well as identify, utilise and co-build systems for medical affairs execution of life cycle excellence, working effectively with local and global cross-functional stakeholders, ensuring the right setup, resource allocation and governance are considered and implemented to support our life cycle excellence model.
Key Responsibilities
Lead on identifying, co-developing and utilising systems required for implementation of EAPs (e.g., Access platform, Unregistered Product Supply platform), Medical Affairs website, etc., ensuring the right setup and resources are considered and implemented to support our life cycle excellence model, working effectively with key cross-functional team e.g., IT, Medical Affairs Directorates.
Provide fair, balanced, non-promotional and unbiased medical and scientific support to external and internal stakeholder on life cycle excellence, specifically on early access and systems.
Identify, develop, and maintain professional and credible relationships with the health care community, especially Scientific Leaders (SL) and academic centres, in the relevant disease area(s) and in collaboration with relevant internal functions deliver improved patient outcomes in a given disease area.
Participate in the development of the Medical Affairs Plans (MAPs) and implement EAP and system tactics identified in the MAP that align with the Company’s therapeutic areas of interest.
Working cross functionally undertake the delivery of specific (or support the delivery of) projects in the MAP e.g., PLPA, PAP, digital strategy.
Collaborate with and provide support to any field-based team members in relation to access and systems.
Develop partnerships with market access, regulatory and development colleagues to appropriately and rapidly gain access for patients to our medicines e.g., Health Technology Appraisals, patient access schemes, compassionate use programmes.
Interacts (e.g., group presentation or 1:1 meeting) as necessary and appropriate with healthcare organisations, health professionals, clinical investigators, and other health care providers and organisations in order to provide complete, accurate, balanced, scientifically rigorous and non-promotional medical and clinical information.
Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of the NHS environment, especially in regard to early access and digital systems, as well as products and relevant disease area(s) in order to act as an expert medical resource.
Represents the Medical Department at local or regional non-promotional medical events (e.g., Medical Congresses and Symposia), utilising the events to attain ongoing clinical knowledge and appropriately gather competitor intelligence.
Where applicable, in collaboration with colleagues facilitate the delivery of data generation activities (phase I -IV), including the identification of suitable research projects, research centres, investigators and innovative methods to generate data.
Qualifications and Experience
Medical, pharmacy or a higher science (PhD) degree, with a significant understanding of the NHS landscape & environment, in particular robust understanding of NHS early access schemes and medical affairs digital systems.
High level of knowledge of ABPI Code of Practice, preferably with final signatory status.
Proven relationship building skills with scientific leaders (either in the pharmaceutical industry or healthcare/academic setting).
Understanding of the wider NHS environment and key opportunities for pharma and the NHS to partner effectively within the scope of the ABPI Code of Practice.
A robust understanding of digital healthcare system solutions and IT skills for a modern working environment.
